My long term plans is when we get our payment for the current job, - fly to the shipyard system, buy some tools, turn one or two cargobays\living quaters in workshops, hire some crew that have manufacturing experience and start producing hull plates and rail gun ammo, both for our own use and selling while doing various pirate hunting jobs (Pirates is like goblinite in DF)

Serious. We would be brewing the alcohol. Or not, the basic idea I have is to sell stuff to the miners.

There's a lot of asteroids... And what do you suggest we do? Name one thing as safe and legal as and more profitable than trading low-bulk luxuries to miners with tons of minerals. We could probably sell the stuff to them for ore, much cheaper than we would if buying the ore directly, and then make a profit on the ore!

Think about it.  You're a miner.  You've got a shitty job in some quadrant with no entertainment, with the possibility of pirates attacking you.  And you're sober.  Then, one of the freighters protecting you offers to sell you some booze!  I mean, what would you do?  Because I would get drunk.  Also, think of the positive morale we'll have! 
And I am serious.  It's not like we're choosing between escorting miners and selling them alcohol.  It's just another way to get income, while doing the job.
