Are you making the fluff up on the fly, Ebbor? :D
Nope, not this time, an attempt at explanation was given earlier, but not worked out completely.

The jump beacon is relatively close to the station and no pirates are seen.  As you wait for the Jumpdrives to charge, you're happy to know that these beacons are found over the entire traject. While the name might be misleading, because the Jumpdrive navigates solely on gravitic influences in the space time continuum, they are vital for fast interstellar travel. Calculating jump trajectories is  an extremely complicated and long endavour , and a small error might result in a unfortunate collision with the local sun. The jump beacons, which always remain in the same place around the main body of gravity in their system, prove a helpfull aid. Their powerfull computers can rapidly adapt the precalculated jumptrajectories to whichever ships passes  by, and their heavy armour and complete automation keeps costs low.

Do we have any personal scale weapons? Some pirates could survive that explosion. I don't want to see our shuttle boarded
Mining lasers, and some of the advanced tools.

You call on the pirates to surrender, offering them sanctuary, or death if they do not comply. They surrender, and bring their ships into the hangar bay, although it is under gunpoint. You're not sure what to do with them, so you just put them in a small room for the time being. They should be comfortable, and what little wounds they had have been taken care off.
You then set to  investigating the fighters. You're sad to find that the potent weaponry they seemed to be carrying were actually decoys, and that they're effectively unarmed. They do however carry communication jammers, and 2 Crawler drones. The first is an illegal instrument that does what it name implies, the second is a drone normally used to automatically assemble hull plating and other systems in space.

The ship's captain gladly agrees to wait for it's escort, as his share of the loot will be a welcome supply to his meager wage, and you're ahead of shedule anyway. The 2 missile launchers seem to have been destroyed by the flash fire and rapid decompression of fuels, but inside you find a small supply of hand made missiles, as well as 2 standard Mosquito missiles.  Not much else remains from the ship, and the hull plating probably isn't worth saving, considering that it was of meager quality before you melted most of it. You give some of the other findings to the merchants, and divy up the rest between yourselves.

The rest of the Journey goes well, and after two days of travel you finally reach your destination. Merope is an industrial system, centralized mainly on the production of raw materials.
The three uninhabited planets support a large mining industry, supplied by ores from asteroid and planetoid mining and 2 of the Gas giants are used for the production of both reactor and spaceship fuel. A small tradehub exists where some trading is done, but don't expect a great variety of goods. There's a small police operation there, should you feel the need to register the firefight and the loot you got from it.

Having know succesfully completed contract, the merchant offers you the following recompensation, giving you a small bonus in fuel for your efforts in killing the pirates.

Time to break our promise? I think we should befriend police and turn pirates in. Also we may give part of our loot to them, while hiding more useful things ( communication jammers are illegal, so should be given in) We can ask to leave them to us.

On other hand we have unregistered ship, so contacting police may bring some problems. So maybe we should try to integrate pirates in our crew and go shady route

Also, I propose to spend all our credits on fuel, we are at refinery so it's cheap here. We may sell some later in other places if we need cash

I'd suggest not turning in the pirates. (the shady route)
I think we should only fill some of the tank with  fuel, we don't want to turn the ship into a floating bomb...
Also, we may want to fit the railguns on the Red Rocket onto a fighter.
Then explore the distress call. There'll probably be loot.
Max looks at the co-ordinates for the distress call, eagerly waiting to explore it.

1. The flash evaporation and fireball was a result of your vaporising most of the (unarmoured)ship with a single laser blast.  The explosion itself was mostly harmless, if a bit spectacular. By the point where something is capable of breaching your fuel tanks, you're screwded anyways.

Can we murder the next guys to cross our path? Pleeeeeease?
Fine for me.

I think we should keep their original design, decoys. Just remove the jammer and replace with unguided missiles, turning them in hit and run bombers, while red rocket can our light fighters

Our fuel  tanks should be pretty well defended, so I'd not worry much (oh, 10ebbor10 ninjad me)

Let's dock at trade hub\refinery first.

BTW do not forget to load that 200 fuel reward in salvation tank

I agree with fitting fighter railguns on the undamaged fighter, selling the pirates to the police as well as the illegal stuff to them as well.

Accept the offer graciously. Go check fuel prices.

That distress signal was 2 sectors, and 2 days back, FYI.

So

1) dock trade hub
2) check fuel prices
3) contact police, register part of the loot (everything expect mosquito missiles and crawlers), give pirates and hope for bounty
4) then we may plan about repairs\upgrades\purchases and look for jobs (new merchant escort is fine for me. Maybe police will offer something)
5) Do not touch fighters, yet. Maybe we'll find something better then our railguns, besides police may request returning of the fighters if they are stolen somewhere

We're in an unregistered ship, no calling the police.
We need to figure out what we're gonna do with them.  If they're bad apples, we can always leave them on some god-forsaken rock in the middle of space.  Like pirates.
Charlie makes small talk, trying to find out more about them, while making sure they don't have any further injuries. (I know you said they had been tended to, but this is what I would have done if given the option.  He'll just say it's a follow-up check just in case.)

We need to befriend police... we have the story salvation already, and merchant will say that we are good guys if we ask. Maybe that will even let us to register our ship faster

I'd advise against going out of our way to run into or avoid the police. Or High Guard, or whatever.

I think this but keep jammers. Veeerrry useful looking.
Inquire about large scale mining equipment that can be fitted on the ship, Ie. badass lasers, particle beams, and explosives, possibly even chemical based weaponry.
