why fly shuttle to town if we can fly our cruiser? I say salvage the shuttle after the run, if we need it we may repair it later

As for what we look for

1) comfort and life support, crew should be happy and healthy
2) medical equipment
3) engines\engine parts
4) electronics
5) armor plates

In theory, a smaller ship would be more efficient, requiring less fuel.  Also, we don't want to make it obvious we need parts for a beat up ship.  Actually, are we allowed to have this thing?  Wouldn't finding it in the scrapyard make it stolen, if we aren't allowed to be scavenging in it?

Yeah, but I think it should go:
Quote
1)Engine\parts\fuel
2)Armor
3)Medical Supplies
5)Electronics
6)Comfort
We want to make sure our ship is able to move, then that it's spaceworthy, then that we won't die horribly from injuries, then work on upgrading the electrical components (it can fly, it just requires manual input, if I'm understanding right).  After that we can work on comfort.  I don't know if you meant those to be in a specific order, but I feel like clarification can't hurt.

Making the Salvation liveable should be the first priority, followed by making it safe and mobile. Comfort should be dead last, right after some sort of farm to help the life-support system and supplement food supplies.

Shia Trotsky
Living on the edge worlds was difficult after the alliance fell apart. Shipments of the basics was few and far between. As Shia grew up she became more and more angry watching her community rot with each passing year as synthesizing tools and growing food became the norms along with the raid and extortion of any party passing through who felt like they were worth the time. At a young age Shia joined the ragtag militia in her small outpost, volunteering for a position as a First Contact Marine (FMC). With no artillery or large battleships the regular tactic was to take a "Redrocket" Lamprey-class boat (In the US Navy a boat is any vessel under 135 feet and longer than 9 feet.) Latch onto the side of the orbiting ship and sap it. Sadly Shia only got routine sapping qualifications and never learned how to pilot but was the most effective at keeping the team hidden and performing a quick insertion. She also isn't to bad with a rifle either. She left that life when the vessel that was sapped had already dropped it's away team and all of it's escape pods. With no ship to return to the marauders took over the town in mere hours. Killing Shia's loved ones and gutting the town. Shia returned to fight, dropping the Redrocket out of town hours later. Sadly when she returned the fight was over. All of her friends and family were dead and most of the group was taking the others and trying to figure out where to place them for work to get some use out of the fifty some odd civilians and handful of children. Shia packed her things quickly, knowing a fight would be useless, ran to the Redrocket, firing up autopilot and jetting off. The lived Voidside for about a week before a vessel ran through that she could cling to. An uncommon group of merchants quickly stopping in to sell off trinkets and cool their engines. After hailing the surface with little response they took off.

Shia has made herself useful to the crew by being able to filet metal with her insertion skills as well as shaping scrap. A waste of skill maybe but she is only doing this on the side until she can figure out a way of returning to her home "Sainto" as she used to affectionately call it (The real name is K-1185) and stringing up the body of the marauders leader on her vessel's prow.

(I would call her a Recon or Militia but You can tweak it as you like. Sorry if I took a little liberty with the universe. Just tell me if there is anything I need to change.)

Shia tries to shake the sweat from her brow and frowns at how hot these suits seem to get. "So how much more scrap are you guys going to have me cut and shape before you are satisfied that this thing will hold air. If we can't get any fuel for this heap no amount of patches will do any good." Shia releases the button for her comm on her arm and sighs lamenting the end of her fifteen minute break and firing up her torch.

Also I was thinking they could use her ship as their little regular ship. It has, comfortably, space for two people to live, and not indefinitely. We have been managing to live on the thing for months at a time, a handful of us. Super tight quarters, thin air, and rationed food and water, and no weapons, but it is perfect for a scavenging group as it is built with a magnetic meta-airlock, allowing it to snag on to any ship or piece of scrap big enough and cut into it. It is also fairly fast and small and can enter and exit atmosphere (it cannot however fly inside of atmosphere very long due to wing integrity it can only fly at certain angles for short periods of time before heating up and turning red hot (hence the common name)). Our little ship is trashed on the inside and smells of mildew, sweat and unwashed bodies and in reality is pretty much a tin can with a bottle rocket attached to it, still though, home sweet home. It is a metallic grey with a heavily scraped thick yellow stripe running down the center. The craft is shaped like a tomb stone, tapered at the top, the meta-lock on the bottom flat side and the jets at the flat end, with wings on each side and landing jets located on the top (it lands upside down with the airlock facing up).

56' (L) by 41' (W) by 14' (H) roughly.

You like?

If it passes we should give her a name.

Another place would be fine.?

(The cargo shuttle can easily outrun/ outmanouver it at this moment.)

The character is fine, and the small ship is too, but no more free stuff after that.

Work on the ship continues, while Max and Diana take the Cargo shuttle for a small tour around the scrapyard. Since the cargo shuttle had the only working sensors on board, work focuses on installing the salvaged sensors first. They are installed with little effort, and the use of some spare parts. You leave the active targetting sensor off for the moment, since it would probably give away your surroundings. The resolution is quite bad, but it should suffice for now.

With some work on the reactor, you manage to bring a third online, though you did use quite a lot of your remaining spare parts. Nevertheless, power should now be secured. Some work is also done on the oxygen synthesizers, but despite Promtho's best efforts you can't get them to function properly. Seems like you'll be stuck with the ozone smell till you get to the station, were you should be able to buy replacements.

Meanwhile Baxter and some other are checking on the computer system. It appears that a large part of the computer system, including all long term data storage, is simply missing. You manage to patch it up a bit with some salvaged computer parts, but that still leaves you with a blank and inferior computer system. You could try to adapt the freight shuttle's software, but that's nowhere near optimal for a ship as large as this.

About a good 14 hours later, when Max and Diana finally return, they find the ship in a much better state than they left it. The hull has been properly patched up, though they later find out that the rooms still haven't been presurized, because there are some questions about the strength of the patches. Some of the auxilary engines have been patched up, and apparently got a radar online as well.

Nevertheless, they ain't bringing good news. One of the automated security drones has decided to venture deeper in the scrapyard than before, and the ship will come within detection range within about 20 minutes. They themselves hadn't got much time to hang around, preventing them from salvaging anything, though they made a short list.

Is it possible for us to deactivate the engines and use the spare power to get the lasers online?

Yes, . But you have 3 operational reactors though, allowing you to run quite a lot of different systems.. You activate 3 lasers without problems, for example.

As for reactors:
Quote from: Updated power sheet
All auxilaries: 1 reactor when fully repaired (Current: 0.5)
Main engines: Up to 2 reactors (Current: 0)
Jump drive: At least 1 while charging, up to 3 reactors if fully repaired. (Note, activating a jumpdrive while changing delta v is dangerous, so the engines are presumed to be off while jumping) (Currently :0)
Lifesupport, sensors and varia: Up to 1 (Currently 1)
    Weaponry:
-4 lasers for 2 reactors under normal circumstances. Continues fire will result in overheating and will use 1 reactor per laser
-4 mass drivers for 1 reactor
    Free capacity: 1.5

OK. Power up 3 lasers and prepare to attack that automated drone when it arrives.

This.

At some point, organize a team to go to the cargo ship for salvage or loot.
