Can I please get a character? Legion McCaffee, Mechanic. Or maybe Engineer if you think the difference is too minor.

What do we need to manually pilot the ship? Also, why is it illegal to be in the scrapyard? Where is the scrapyard located? What are the authorities around here?

Yeah, I'll put him in in the next turn.Feel free to add actions already.

Just some good spatial sense. Most of the controls still work, but the autopilot and all that's related to it has been utterly unresponsive, and is probably destroyed. Combined this with the fact that there are no sensors and that you're flying in a scrapyard, and you might get some problems.

As for the scrapyard. It's owned and operated by the governement, and between the inner and outer planets of the Galven system. It's illegal to acces since the governement doesn't like you running away with their salvage, and to ensure your safety, as active and automated dumping is in progress. Ships that end up here are often still functioning in some way, as it's also the place to dump dangerous ships(Ie, ships with overloading reactors and stuff). The default dumping method is using a jump field generator to just dump the ship inside. Because the jump field isn't accurate, or safe, they can't allow anyone inside while the scrapyard is in operation.

As for the authorities, there's the planetary governement, the station control, merchant guild and maybe the lone patrol of the Commonwealth(Which is also called it's original name, the alliance, though it's not really stable at the moment).

I insist on repairing life support to acceptable state, also we should patch holes in our hull

Spend time cleaning some Living Quaters

How regular are the patrols?

I think we should grab another ship, just to be on the safe side, and then get the hell out of here. I don't want any freshly dumped piece of trash landing inside my sleeping quarters.

Legion meanwhile patches up the main engines.

Extremely irregular, even during the good times you only saw them about once a month. Nowadays they are only called in when the pirates get to bad.

Note that there are few pickings on the ships here (most are just empty husks), the outer part of the scrapyard are more lucrative, but also more dangerous.

More dangerous? Why?

But sure, why not. I can't imagine taking a ship taking so long as to put us in danger. Scratch the ship-searching part. We'll get to it after fixing the engines and stuff.

I'd like to claim a character, Max Lukasson, pilot.
flunked out of the education system into a scavenging gang. Assures everyone that he flunked out after the basic flight exams.
repair engines and life support.
scavenge in inner scrapyard, for fuel.

In order of priority.

For those of you who haven't noticed, your cargo shuttle has fuel on board, and it is transferable without problems.

Max Lukasson wants to fly the shuttle round the junkyard for a more thorough reconnaissance of the scrapyard, taking with him someone to observe / take down notes. Volunteers?

Use the scrap metal, and hull plating to patch up the holes in the ships armor, and interior. Ensure that all bulkheads in the ship are operational or at-least not stuck in the open position as the work is done.
Continue searching the scrapyard for any computer, technology, or sensors that can be used to set up makeshift sensor arrays on the Salvation for the time being.
Focus most efforts on repairing the generators if we can as power is a primary concern, and check to make sure that power to the engines is as equal in return as possible

This time, your prioritize your engines and lifesupport. Legion decides to investigate the engines, but soon finds out that the main engines are severely damaged. It's unlikely that the spare parts you have with you will be enough to completely repair them. You could try to do a patch up job, but repairing fuel pumps and combustion chambers with low quality scrap useally isn't a good idea. Besides, it's unlikely you would be able to navigate this dangerous terrain at full speed. The auxilaries should get you through, provided you aren't chased by anything.

Work on lifesupport doesn't progress much either. It appears the primary oxygen synthesizer is damaged, and there's some damage to the control boards too. The temperature control system suffers from a severe deficit of cooling liquid, and without correct spare parts you ain't going to be able to do much. Nevertheless it appears that the system is capable of keeping you alive for the time being, and should things go wrong, you can always retreat to your small cargo shuttle.

First you send out a scouting party to look for some more computer and sensor technology. Thanks to a nice stroke of luck, they manage to come across a mostly intact cockpit of a Union interceptor, which yields a small amount of electronics and radar parts. You still need to install it, and possible reprogram it, but if you do your ship would have a rudimentary radar system.

Sealing the holes in the ship proves problematic, as scrap isn't exactly the best material to make airthight patches of. After a nearmiss from yet another failed patch, you decide to call of the effort and focus elsewhere.

You send out another scout party, and manage to find a small amount  of frozen fuel, floating near the wreck of an old interstellar fuel transport. While the ship itself is scrap, there might be more fuel inside. Unfortunately, solid hydrogen is extremely unstable, as the slightest amount of heat from your engines might cause it to melt and evaporate, instantly refreezing it and anything near. The crew demand if they should attempt to harvest the fuel, or not.

Meanwhile, Max Lukasson, one of your pilots is calling for a indepth exploration of the the scrapyard.

continue attempts at repairs, and attempt to install the electronics. Run a computer check (if computers are still working...) on how far the fuel will fly the shuttle.
Max would like to carry on requesting a fly-by

1)Try to patch hull again
2)Install electronics
3) Use our shuttle to look for useful scrap, especially engine parts
4) Do not try to scoop fuel, unnecessary risk

Volunteer to participate in the exploration of the scrapeyard

Make sure we have enough  power for everyday use. Consider getting another reactor online if so; getting a reactor online should be a high priority if not.

Try to help with, I dunno, lifting and holding tools. Keep an ear out for hearing about medical emergencies. Not a lot to do right now.
