What's the status of the cargo shuttle? Can we unload the fuel from it, get to the ship from which we got the fuel and try to pick useful stuff from it, like engines?
That ship was completely wrecked except for the fuel. Hell, most of those ships around you are. Floating around in space for more than 70 years isn't good for these things. Besides, you didn't pick up much fuel. The majority is as of yet ungathered, because that would be risky. So far I have no consensus on that.
While salvaging cargo shuttle for anything useful may be an option (Life support, engine, fuel, electronics, all can be removed and reinstalled on the main ship used) I prefer to have some back up option
On the other hand we may repair our shuttle later or sell hull at station and buy fighter
5) After the last scrap searching run salvage anything useful from the shuttle and install in the main ship. Especially life support and engines\engines parts
The engine parts of a small cargo shuttle are not switchable with those of a seventy years old 200 meter long warship. Lifesupport and fuel are interchangeable. However, your current lifesupports works, but it's not a permanent solution.
Yeah, that's why I asked. I wanted to be a medic because I'm kind of a pacifist (I'll only resort to violence if I have to, and never to small animals) and I meant more of a field medic than a real ships doctor. So yeah, basically your assistant. I don't know if it's common for ships to have multiple "doctors" but it seems like a good idea. Otherwise, I'll take a cabin-boy who dreams of seeing the universe or something.
I don't think you're going to encounter many small animals in space. Then again, character's fine, adding in next turn.
continue attempts at repairs, and attempt to install the electronics. Run a computer check (if computers are still working...) on how far the fuel will fly the shuttle.
The shuttle uses 5 fuel for a small salvage flight to the nearest ship, and 25 for a complete sweep of an area or to move from one area to another. The Salvation is larger, but also more fuel efficient, especially if you're going to rely on auxilaries only. At present it has the same fuel consumption of your cargo ship, with all auxilaries that doubles, and if you're going to use the main engines on full thrust it can use up to 150 fuel, to move from one sector to another. Newtonic laws are in effect, so the slower you go, the less fuel you use.
During combat manouvering the ship can use up to 25 fuel /turn for basic dodging manoevres.
Anyway, if you're going to go for a full sweep up the scrapyard using the shuttle, I'm going to do a 1 day timeskip untill it is complete. So feel free to give me some bullet point list with conditionals. As for reactors:
All auxilaries: 1 reactor (Current: 0.25)
Main engines: Up to 2 reactors
Jump drive: At least 1, up to 3 reactors if fully repaired. (Note, activating a jumpdrive while changing delta v is dangerous, so the engines are presumed to be off while jumping)
Lifesupport, sensors and varia: Up to 1 (Currently 0.75)
Weaponry:
-4 lasers for 2 reactors under normal circumstances. Continues fire will result in overheating and will use 1 reactor per laser
-4 mass drivers for 1 reactor.
