change of plan. Strap two dummy missiles to that bad boy after separating it (only if we can't disarm it.) and we will send it their way. If they blow it up prematurely whatever, not much loss anyway.

Lucas still held a confused look on his face.
"Ok - WHAT exactly are we going to do?"

If we can only cut out a chunk of hull to release the warhead - wouldn't a warhead, plus a few "dummy" missiles on a flat piece of metal sort of...give it away that we're returning their present? I mean, sensors would probably pick it up as projectiles, but if one pirate decides "lets have a look out this window/porthole...oh shit, there's...wait a minute...something's awfully odd about that piece of metal attached to those missiles..."
Although its a good scare tactic. Diana has the high negotiations skill - why doesn't she try and bluff the pirates via dice rolls and such?

Here's a possible way of working this scene out.
As Domas, Shia, and Lucas get prepared to remove the warhead and prepare to board respectively, Diana should try and distract the pirates with her negotiations skills. That way - in theory - they wouldn't be as prepared for both the return of the warhead and our boarding party.

Go ahead. We have multiple things we are doing as well.

Come to think of it we should wait until the new turn is posted then plan and act accordingly.

I just read RP - thought "yeah been a long time since I did one of these", saw Salvation, clicked on it out of curiosity and was immediately hooked on the first page.

All over the ship, people are working to defuse the problematic situation. What should have been a trivial encounter has suddenly turned into a dangerous situation, and could quickly escalate beyond control if not acted upon correctly. The situation on the bridge is chaotic, and in the end everyone ends up executing his own plan. The pirate is hailed, and told of your (false) surrender. They order you to deactivate the weapons and engines, and drop the cargo into space, so that they can pick it up later. Max complies and shuts down the engines, using the opportunity to tilt the ship slightly, in order to hide the missile from the pirates view.

Meanwhile, the boarding crew's hurriedly preparing themselves. Fitting the suits, connecting the internal air supply, putting on the helmet and making sure that one's sealed to. It's a procedure that would've taken more than an hour with the old suits, but takes less than a few minutes with the newer suits. Your Chief engineer could probably give you a complete explanation in which way's mechanical pressurization is superior to pneumatic, but the important thing is that there's a seriously reduced chance of sudden decompression, while allowing for increased mobility as opposed to the old bubble suits. The team gathers the rest of their assortement of welders and small weaponry, before leaving through the central airlock.

On the other side of the ship, the AI is trying to talk an engineer through the process of replicating the signal. While slightly complicated by the fact that humans don't speak natural binary, finding the signal amongst the background EM radiation is an almost trivial task. However, actually tricking the warhead to accept it is a fair bit harder. After all, there's no way to tell how it would respond to a duplicate signal and as such, the enemy transmitter needs to be deactivated at the same moment the signal is activated.

Outside, the EVA team is slowly progressing towards the impact site. The warhead, apparently a modified mining explosive, is found half embedded into the hull. The team starts to remove it with care, making sure not to upset any possible motion sensors. Removing the hull plate is a little bit problematic, as it has been crumpled up by the impact. However, with some carefull cutting and the appliance of a certain amount of force, the plate eventually comes loose, and the warhead slowly drifts away from the ship. Domas carefully stops it before it gets to far away and asks for a couple of missiles. Apparently, he's got a cunning plan of some sort.

Unfortunately, all this takes time, and the pirates are rapidly becoming impatient. They fire their engines, and are closing in rapidly. Diana tries to talk them off, citing problems with the cargo system and such, and while mostly unsuccesfull, manages to buy enough time for Domas. The improvised contraption launches away from the ship but starts spinning in circles before being detonated. A rain of small, harmless debris bounces of the Salvation's hull, interpuncted by 2 larger impacts. Max attempts to limit the damage with a last minute manoever, but he can't prevent the impact. Luckily, the pirate's weaponry fails to breach, resulting only in a few dented hull plates.

The AI returns fire, severly damaging the enemies bridge. With a significant part of it's hullplating gone, it won't be long before another hit manages to breach. A carefull eye could probably spot the pirates evacuating the bridge just in time, as the railgun shells shatter it's battered windows. This gives you a moment of opportunity, as switching the systems to manual should take some time.

Domas watches the wreckage of the improvised rocket thoughtfully.
Well that could have gone better. Anyone up for a good old fashioned boarding? who knows, we might find a group of AI's this time.

Yeah from that description we've given ourselves a minute or two, possibly killed one or two pirates and gave them a good scare. Now we need to quickly travel over and board the ship and force them to surrender.
I wouldn't be surprised if they begin to arm themselves after being "forced" out of their own bridge.

Wait - from the sound of the quote...perhaps it wasn't as effective as I thought...
Another thing - I was just wondering - how rules lite are RPs? The RPs I've been in were mostly just that - role-playing and mutual "yeah, that'd happen if you do that".
