We are operating on spaceships and the like. Mortars require a lot of z space to be lobbed. Do you know how a mortar works? Plus mortar launchers generally work better in larger quantities and with MORTARS. Horribly inaccurate and are used to put the enemy into cover. They provide covering fire and nothing else. They have to be used in large quantities to be effective as well.

Also you get 1 standalone and 2 attachments. I assume we won't be attacking anything hundreds of meters away and if we are, we can always use the salvation.

L= Lifesupport. Most notably the cooling parts
J =jumpdrives
A,B,C,D, Alpha= cargo
S= Sensors
B= Bridge, both primary and secundary
M= Medbay(Deck 3) or missiles (Deck 4)
D= Docking area
H= Habitation
Red dots= Auxilary engines

Do note that the map is not on scale and doesn't incorporate airlocks or corridors and such.

Quote
Diana spent her time among the drinking crew and other visitors of the bar, looking for some specific crew roles. She hoped to find a captain with military experience that will lead them in battles. So far they had a direct democracy on the ship, and it's worked. But they, being nothing than former scavengers, lacked a commander with proper skills and experience for the battles. She looked for the right person, who would give good commands in combat and in combat only.
Also she got quite interested in the merchant and spent good twenty minutes  with him, asking about what happened

Your search for a military advisor proves problematic. Only the retiring merchants navigator, who not only knows little about combat situations, but is also fairly arrogant, shows some interest. The story of the other merchant is more interesting. His is a tragic tale. Once he used to be a succesfull merchant, owning a small merchant fleet. However, most of his ship's were seized by some sort of local vigilante militia. Nevertheless, he managed to survive using his only remaining ship, but a few days ago it was damaged by pirates, and upon entering this sector it's jumpdrive fractured, rendering the ship completely immobile.

Spoiler: Purchases (click to show/hide)

Shia upon overseeing the return of the new armor and weapons to the ship calls her crew down to the cargo bay to issue the new suits and see who gets one of the grenade launchers, and which two from her team get an attachment. A couple more hours are spent taking these weapons apart and learning how to clean them, seeing as they are new to everyone. The remaining supplies and grenades are placed into two crates, one locked containing the grenades, the other containing the suits, patches, and launchers for Domas' team.

The weapon dealer agrees, and a few moments later one of his henchmen brings in a few small crates containing weaponry. You managed to bring them back to the ship without trouble. The launchers are of a remarkably simple, yet efficient design. A small capacitor powers a compact magnet, which then propells the grenade towards the target. Nonstandard parts can also be launched, as the launchers come free with a series of small metal containers. Accuracy is fairly large, but it's effective range is rather small.
The Iongrenades are pretty fun, though rather complicated to use. In order to protect the fragile mechanics inside, the entire thing is covered in some sort of rubbery plastic. Which, combined with a low G environement, turns into a rather amusing projectile.

((So now I suppose you head towards those pirates and set up your trap, or talk to the merchant some more, or something else. Suprise me.))
