Zafehouse: Diaries
« on: September 19, 2012, 04:45:26 am »

So, ladies and gents seems like the zombie survival simulator Zafehouse is getting a sequel Zafehouse:Diaries.
I've only run through Demo and Manual and it seems quite good.

From the site:

About
Zafehouse: Diaries is a tactical game of survival, planning, resource management and problem-solving, coming soon to PC. Manage your survivors’ needs, prejudices and motivations and you might stay around long enough to be rescued.

Tell your story
Zafehouse: Diaries uses a unique, diary-based interface. It records your actions, reveals the state of the world, provides hints and clues to help you, and can be exported and shared when the game is over.

Pick your battles

A sophisticated combat engine models all battles in the game, from a zombie slipping in through a bathroom window, to a swarm flooding into the hospital you thought was secure. The combat engine takes into account each survivor’s abilities and relationships, the environment, weapons, items and more.

Task-based UI

A simple, streamlined interface makes it easy to issue orders to your survivors, without getting bogged down in micromanagement. Will you get them to search the location, watch for zombies, barricade the windows, lay traps, prepare food or patrol outside?

Face dilemmas

Will you leave a survivor trapped in the basement with some zombies so you can prepare for a fight? What if the Piper drops by and says he’ll lead some zombies away from the house as long as you give him some live bait? Dilemmas force you to make difficult choices for the good of the group.
Know your survivors

Survivors have unique personalities and skills – use them wisely and the group will work efficiently. But they don’t just wait around for you to give them an order. They’ll explore, maintain barricades, socialise, play games and tinker.

Relationships matter

Make sure you check in on your survivors and see how they’re getting along. Poor relationships mean they won’t work well together, and may even end up fighting – or worse.

Customisable

Add your own names, portraits and locations to the game – play Zafehouse: Diaries with a group of friends in your hometown.

This sounds interesting for me as a DF player:

Interesting. Being on my phone I haven't looked closely at it yet, but the whole diary interface looks pretty cool. Gonna check it out later.

Is there some kind of unwritten law where all zombie games must have stupid names? As for the game itself it looks fairly decent, I think I'll keep an eye on how things advance.

Luckily it didn't end as Bio-hazard Zombie Diary of Left the Dead: Electric Boogaloo Z (Z for 2)...

A really nice game concept anyway... I like game that so vague you need imagine "what the hell happens" moments... The game seems heavily implies the 'survival' part not the WACK-O-SOMEBIE type...

But it kinda bugs me with all the zombie hype lately... Why most survival based game was heavily zombie-themed... Why don't we had some aircraft crash accident, ship accident, stranded on top of burning skyscraper, surviving post-earthquake/tornado/gant meteor/ Cthulhu/whatever... Why it need to be Zombie... It kinda start to feel the Zombie genre are deader than Disco...

Sorry for my Incredibly Lame Pun...

The genre is dead, but it somehow keeps moving, searching for fresh braaains that aren't yet sick of its cliches.

Text game on managing people in a town full of zombies. Every turn is a hour and you have to survive 60 hours. You need to collect weapons, ammo, water, medkits, and people. Frankly its too easy to lose as my explorers keep finding people when i tell them not to and i lose because of no water.

I found it pretty easy, once you understand its working.  It is really hard in the later days if the zombies re-take one of your buildings.  Nearly impossible to take it back....

I love zombie based games - absolutely adore them.

But the demo for this wasn't great. Super ideas but it's a very limited beta demo.

Plenty of time to improve, though, and has made it on my watch list.

Hi all. Dave from Screwfly here.

Love seeing this mentioned on the DF forums - it might not look like it, but DF was one of the few strong influences on the game.

But most importantly, Zafehouse: Diaries is now available!

Hope you enjoy it.
