Fire-safe materials?
« on: September 18, 2012, 08:14:04 am »

Is there an accurate list of what materials are (or are not) fire-safe? The wiki page is rather terse, and incorrect too. (I regularly use bituminous coal to build my smelter/forge in a DIY embark)

Maybe you should update it then.  Submit a screenshot of a coal forge in operation... in vanillia, of course.

According to the game's current criteria, coal is considered fire-safe - at a temperature of 11,000 it is solid, does not burn, and does not take heat/cold damage.

Of course, it isn't really fire-safe, since actual fire burns at a temperature of 11,640 and will set coal on fire. This is, of course, a known bug on the tracker.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

So the article is accurate other than for that off-hand comment about coal and lignite? I've worked out a way to edit it that I don't fear making false statements, so I've updated the page.

P.S. sorry I didn't notice the "wiki discussion" forum. :(
