With CAO set to be back up pretty soon now, the 0.11 tournament will be upon us in not too long! Let's get some Bay12 teams together. Post with your experience level and your CAO/CDO/CSZO name to sign up.

I'll start sorting players into teams once we have a reasonable number of people signed up.

The date of the tournament had been announced: it will run from October 20th through November 4th.

Definitely won't be playing, but I might do some spectating occasionally. No interest whatsoever in crawl at the moment, but it's not terrible watching other people play, usually. And I still remember a little bit about the game

ggeezz  - I have a handful of wins (maybe 10?), but they're all a little dated.  I haven't been able to win in the last few versions.

I played on the top Bay12 team in the 2009 and 2010 tournaments, and landed a few wins for Bay12.  I could be convinced to play this tournament, i'd be a little rusty, but starting next week i'll have a lot of spare time.

The RL community appears to be split between 2 groups. Those that play tons and lose all the time, and those that win consistently. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to hop from one group to the other!

E:Though there's in-between folks, too. I win occasionally but usually die, ferex. Mostly I get bored with whatever I'm playing and start a new character

I'll be on the zero-win team. I'm good, but when I get bored, which is when I'm not nearly dying horribly, I get stupid. Attack the acid blob with my one weapon!

There's another tier of players who not only win consistently, they completely own the game.  They win in streaks, they win with weaker classes, with obscure combinations, they win quickly and in few turns, at low levels, etc., etc.

You have to have the knowledge of the game to do it, but it also takes a certain mindset.  I've tried to cultivate that mindset, but it's tough.

I fall into mindless button pushing too easily.  Also, I'm a hoarder.  And I want to discover things.  I recently died because I equipped an artefact staff and it happened to be distortion.  I wasn't going to use the staff, but I wanted to know what it was.  I want to identify everything, collect everything and max everything like I'm playing Diablo.  And that's not conducive to winning, even if you're careful.

I think to be good at the game you need to look at it like a game of chess.  You have to look many moves ahead and focus on what's important, not get distracted by what's unimportant.

At least that's my take from watching some of elliptic's games.  But I've not had much luck with it myself.
