For my debut match, I'll take on a Dire Wolf.

Nikolai opened his eyes, shaking off the drowsiness of the morning.
Tsuchigumo, his owner (manager, as he called it) walked up and began discussing the day with him.
"So I signed you up to fight with a Dire Wolf today. A bit of a challenge for someone new to the arena but I'm sure you're up to it."
"Should I kill it, I want it's pelt around my neck. The people will know me as a brutal warrior, and they will cheer when they hear my name."
"Too bad I couldn't get you anything better than copper armor, and not even a full set. Still, having a blowgun and a sword should work in your favor."
"You've seen me fight. Should the wolf come close, it will taste the silver of my blade, and feel the sting of my darts, should it stay away, it will taste silver, feel the darts, and experience fighting man who does not fear death."

Urist McScrewup is what they'd call him, back in the mountainhomes. He came to a human city, like the Traders. Unlike the Traders, however, he screwed up and ended up as a slave. And now, he had to fight in the Arena, for a manager no one knew.
As he was training, he heard from another slave he'd have to fight a wolf. Nothing too bad, he hoped. Wolves may be ferocious, but he was a dwarf, and wielded a battle axe. He would chop up the wolf like it was nobody's bussiness.

Mog woke up, after a night full of drudgery and beatings. Lots of beatings. He shook his head to get himself clear of the graphic scenes that were his dreams, flexed his little, near non-existent fingers, and concentrated.

A small flame appeared in Mog's hand. He smiled with a grin not out of place in one of the asylums that dotted the city around.

Mog was a captured slave, a peaceful moogle, from Chocobo Canyon to the north. He was training to be one of the famous Mognet messengers, famed for miles around. He nearly passed the exam, he'd passed the interviews, he'd done everything, when-

"After all, setting my torturers ablaze isn't too far off."
