The Arena

Deafening cheers and shouts echo throughout the building as the fresh batch of Masters and their "Gladiator" slaves enter the front gates of the Arena. More aggressive men and women tried to grab the gladiators, but we're beaten back by the guards. In the top podium, the Announcer, Claudius, looked upon the new slaves, ripe for the killing. He faced the recruits, and shouted, somehow drowning out the already ear-shattering watchers, "Welcome to the Arena! A place where you can profit, kill, or be killed! One thing is for sure though, I can tell you that it will be bloody! Now, let the games begin!" The audience roared in anticipation.

______________________________________________________________
The Arena is a game where you, the "Masters", will own gladiator slaves. Every day, these slaves fight for money, which can be used to purchase better weapons and armor to fight with. Skill levels can be either purchased or slowly gained in fights. Every week, the Masters will be assessed on how well they have done so far, and the leading 3 masters will receive a monetary bonus, and the top master will have a chance to challenge the current "boss" of the Arena, who will every week change to one more powerful than the last.

To calculate the price of weapons, armor, and miscellaneous items, take the base value of the item in question and times it by the metal's price.

Start with 200 gold coins. If you have any suggestions for new races, post them in the comments and I'll balance them.

Didn't exactly choose an opponent yet, in case something comes up wrong on my math or submission form.

"Thomas, wake up."
The man stirred, not recognizing the voice.
"Another bad investment. The Tortoise never even fought before the arena owner left town. I've taken my money back, but once I provided for your family you owed me more than your property could hope to repay."
"Please," Thomas said, realising who he was talking to. He couldn't see the speaker due to a blindfold, but he knew him all the same. "I'll do anything, just don't harm my family..."
"I don't harm innocents," said the voice. "You are not an innocent. Here, take these."
Thomas took the items. They were some armor and weapons...the hell?...
"What? Do you need a bodyguard or a soldier?"
"The magic in my blood can defeat any assailant, and I can stand in for a whole army myself," replied the voice. "You...you are going to be a gladiator."
Thomas sobbed a moment. The voice left. When Thomas removed his blindfold, he saw a schedule on the floor. He was to be the first fight on the arena's opening day, fighting a boar.
The schedule had a note at the bottom. "Don't screw up--GWG.

Thomas is a human. He has:
1 copper mace (30), 1 copper shield (56), copper chainmail and leggings (40 and 46), and a copper helm (24). This comes to a total of 196 gp. Thomas has a few hours or days to practice the fine art of hitting someone other than yourself with a big, heavy mace or shield, and more importantly the art of not getting hurt while fighting. He will be fighting a boar.

Edit: Damn ninja! GWG pulls strings so Thomas goes first.

GWG, could you put that into a character sheet for my convenience? Otherwise it would be fairly hard for me to keep track of everything. Oh, and NESgamer, that one's fine. Feel free to choose your first fight.

Gladiator name: Ishar
Race: Human
Weapon: Bronze two-handed sword (175)
Skill: Swordfighter
Money left: 25
Total worth: 200

Give me a wolf first. By the way, you said something about using gold to train skills, but there's nothing about that in the description. How do we do that?

Alright. I'll do it. I would have earlier, but it's harder than you'd think to copy-paste on a tablet.

Name: Thomas
Race: Human
Weapons: Copper Mace
Armor: Copper Shield, Copper Helm, Copper Mail Shirt, Copper Leggings
Skill Specialty: Shield User

Both accepted, GWG, I understand completely. I'm using one right now XD. Oh, and Ishar? Thanks for the heads-up, the skills training section has been added to the main post.

Gladiator name: Mog
Race: Moogle
Weapon: Bronze large dagger (50)
Skill: Magic User (Sorry if overpowered, but moogles tend to be VERY squishy, and I don't see where it says 'no magic. Again, I'll change it if it's too unbelievable/Mary Sue-like/stupid.)
Armor: Bronze Gloves (30)
Bronze Helm (60)
Copper Breastplate (30)
Money left: 30
Total worth: 200

I dunno what the bonus is on a moogle, since I did submit them for consideration. Tell me if you don't like me using them, I'll change it.

Okay then, I'll accept that, with a few changes.

First of all, the Moogle can only do basic fire magic (as was agreed on previously.)Secondly, you failed with the math. Bronze gloves are 30. Therefore, you have (50+30+60+30) spent 170 coins and have 30 left. Would you like to buy anything else, or shall we leave it as is?

If possible, I'd like to take the first level of swordfighting and fighter for 10 before the fight. That still leaves me with 5 leftover gold.

Fighting others isn't exactly clear to me: if I win, I'll take half their money? As in, the loser actually loses money in the fight? Or is this the same system as it was in the community games forum, and players can win half the enemy's total WORTH?
Also, the betting system was a nice idea there: if you 'bet' money on the fight, you can win ALL the oppontent's worth, but if you lose, you lose half their worth. Of course you can't bet if you don't have the money.

30 left? I'll take Magic User, Knife User, and Wrestler if possible.

I would like a wolf for my first opponent.

Another thing again: how do I hire another member for my team? Of course I don't have the money in the first round, but I'd like to do it as soon as I can afford it.

More slaves will become possible through special events, for instance a complete upset victory causing a master's fame to skyrocket, would probably lead to you getting a new slave for your team.
