I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, as long as the other wasn't dammed.

I have an idea:
Try merging the 2 rivers together, and see if it changes on the world map at all.

Of course, it would have to be done in a way that it would look like it would verify as 2 rivers into a major river or something.

I don't think that would do anything, but try anyway.

Even if it did change something, you wouldn't be able to tell anyway would you? (Due to the whole area getting covered in "Your fortress was here" tiles)

You could explore on foot in adventure mode. Or see if both rivers leave the embark areas.

I think there is a misunderstanding of how water works over Z levels here???. If both rivers are at the same Z level they will not 'drain' in to each other. If one is at a higher Z level, I'd run it thru a pressure regulator just to be sure, but in general if the river isn't allowed to over flow the banks in the area of the waterfall, it won't overflow further down the line.

One of the rivers is from a higher z level. I would like to merge the rivers for any number of reasons that cold be done in more efficient (and less dwarfy) ways.

There are two situations I don't want to cause:
  • Water from the higher river flooding the 4 z levels between the two rivers.
Stopping the flow of the second river.

Eventually I want a magma lake in the middle of a lake with a cast obsidian mountain (or cast obsidian obelisk) rising up out of the magma lake serving as the entrance to the fort.
