OVERVIEW
Dive into the comedy-fantasy world of Folk Tale and lead your illiterate subjects to greatness, in spite of their moronic efforts to undermine you. Build a thriving economy, harvest resources, construct buildings and amass vast wealth, before risking it all on an adventure through frozen wastes, volcanoes, and stinking swamps.

With complete camera freedom and three easy-switch camera modes ( FPS, TPS and RTS ) you can experience gameplay in any style that suits. Enjoy village life and settlement building up-close and personal before being drawn into an hilarious plot to rescue your villagers from the clutches of the infamous Slavemaster Urzal. Train a raggedy band of voice-acted misfits and lead them on an hazardous adventure that pits you against gangsta goblins and were-fu monks ( it's like Kung Fu, but hairier ) before teaming up with the ever-so-camp wizard Camphry Mageflower to save the villagers and his foul-mouthed familiar Hobbles.

Folk Tale is a real-time adventure-strategy-city builder-god game for PC, Mac and Linux developed by indie studio Games Foundry using the Unity platform.

KEY FEATURES

    Rich and varied gameplay from building your own impressive settlement and economy, to overcoming puzzles and challenges on the path to adventure, unlocking new characters and abilities as you conquer your way to victory;
    Follow the lives of your moronic peasants as they evolve from simpletons into masters of an empire;
    Takes fantasy stereotypes and introduces topical real-world slants such as "street-style gangsta goblins" for a refreshing blend of fantasy;
    Over 40 hours of thrilling and varied single-player gameplay split across two campaigns to introduce beginners to the world of Folk Tale;
    Endless hours of configurable fun with friends through multiplayer and sandbox modes;
    Stylized hand-painted artwork with broad appeal across all age ranges;
    Supports different styles of play, from fast-paced war-mongerer to slower city management;
    Karma system that lets you pray for good and bad things to happen;
    Three camera modes for a variety of play styles – overhead strategy-cam, first-person terrain-cam, and third-person follow-cam;

Hopefully this will signal the return of the god games. I miss that genre.

Remember that old game Beast And Bumpkins made by EA back when they actually wanted to make videogames?
No.

I forget that B&B wasn't a quite well known god/city builder game. :-[ well the closes and most recent one people might compare to is Towns I guess. Though I recommend you give B&B a try, it was a good game for its time.

You have to be careful when you compare your product to another one, in case people haven't heard of it, didn't like it, or think you can do a better job and should be able to describe your product without resorting to what others have already done.  And even if you didn't make this game, you trying to get us interested makes it "your product".

I have to agree

This is what happened to Dungeons. Dungeons was nowhere close to Dungeon keeper and yet people, and even the developer, tried to give it as a game comparible to it.

It left a distorted image.

Aw man, I loved Beasts & Bumpkins! When you told two people to get a children they'd say things like:

"Fancy a bit of the ol' rough'n'tumble, ey?"

Can't remember much else than this, but it evokes nice feelings. I think it was a nice town building game as far as I remember!

Not too sure about the several game-modes (FPS, TBS and RTS), especially if some quests need to be done in FPS format. Kind of like how I didn't like the RTS part of Space Rangers 2...

Man that was a great game, the economy was pretty bugged, with hilarious results:
Keep switching the water price up and down with extreme amounts and people will get confused and buy ridiculously expensive water.

Also glad to see more of the godgame/DK style game being made. Populous, DK 1 & 2 and Black and White was some of the greatest games ever made, just a shame both Lionhead and Bullfrog went under.
I think a lot of the new gamers would have enjoyed those games a immensely. B/W would have been cool on the Wii too.

Thanks to you and OP I actually managed to find said game on Home of the Underdogs and C:DOS Abandonware. Haven't downloaded it but it seems a fair bit more interesting than the game that OP is talking about due to the lack of information.

I concur, Black and White would have been awesome on the Wii. I also didn't know that Lionhead and Bullfrog went under; kind of sad to hear about that as the two provided some of the defining games of my childhood and adolescence. Oh, and a quick price check on Black and White shows that the last four new copies on Amazon.com are going for $99 and up, while a used copy goes for about $14 and a collectible copy for $50. I just thought I'd put that out there.

Lionhead was pretty much a sinking ship because of Black and White 2 and the nightmare of developing for it (To give you the sheer scope of how bad their development issues were. They had to redo the entire engine well over halfway through development) it going way over budget and selling almost no copies. It didn't go under, it was bought out... at the same time it definately would have went under. A lot of people were mad at them for the game but I don't really blame them (I blame them for the release video... but that is it).

Bullfrog however did not go anywhere near under. They made one unprofitable game, or low profit game, and were abolished by EA. Even EA has admitted that this was a mistake but one it couldn't fix at the time.

Current Lionhead is still around and they are pretty much "The Fable team" and have seemingly just given up trying to develop anything new or interesting, nor are they really trying to perfect their craft. Peter isn't even on the team and he was pretty much the creative drive.

Using other games as a shorthand description of what a game is works fine. People have been doing it for years, and not just in video games. It's a good way to give people a quick idea of what your game entails in one short sentance.

It worked pretty well for the entire genre of rogue-likes.
