I'm enjoying this greatly.  And I'd like to claim a migrant, if that's still an option.

Assuming it is, I'd like one of the young women who had been out gathering plants...  Maybe even the one (or was it one of the ones?  At one point you said "a few young women" but then you said "One of them is being haunted... They both have children with them" - so not I dont know if a few means two)

... ahh, where was I?  Right then! I'd like one of the young women who had been out gathering plants...  Maybe even the one that was NOT being haunted.

Likes plants.  Live or dead doesn't matter.  Flowers, fruit, wood... but doesn't really like processed plants.  Once a plant has been brewed, cooked, or turned into furniture she doesn't really care about it anymore.  She'll eat cooked food, of course.  Just... there's something special about the natural form that the unnatural lacks for her.

She'd rather be outside than inside (at least until/if she ever gets a look at cavern vegetation) and she dislikes animals.  Hates monsters even more.  Horrified at the unusual events occuring, she's very close to a complete and total breakdown.

Once she snaps (you decide if and when, as well as why if so) she's going to want a wooden weapon.  She'll take one if possible, try to make one if not.  Maybe she never succeeds.  If she does, then she's going to try and get a wooden shield, or make one of those.  If she can do that, then she's going to be more than willing to try and fight those blighted fiends (Oh, how I hope you happen to get an artifact wooden weapon around that time, unlikely as it is)

So the young woman that had been accompanying the late Imp when she'd been haunted doubles as a bone doctor, of all things.  She really does love gathering plants.  Hope you approve of her, Imp.

17th Limestone

A woman approached me today, as I was sparring with our broken and battered husk.  She call herself Dr. Imp, oddly enough.  She looked familiar.

She tried to act as if she were ecstatic to be here.  I could see under this brittle shell, however.  She was full of anxiety, worried for her child.

Blah blah blah...She felt that she had no control, and wanted to join the military.  She wanted the horrors to end, no matter the cost.  She even went as far as to pick up some gear of her own.  A training axe and a wooden buckler.

What the heck.  I put her in my squad and try to teach her a couple tricks.

Almost immediately the husk rears up and bites me in the leg.  It writhes and whips it body, shaking its head and tearing my thigh apart.

I drop to the ground.  Dr.  Imp sees my wound and goes pale.  I call a retreat and she helps me into the compound.

"Who is the chief doctor here?"  She asks.

:  It was Dr. Marcus.  Would you like the job?

"What?"

:  Are you a good doctor?

"I'm better than good.

: You're hired.  What's the prognosis?"

Dr. Imp hissed through her teeth.  "The nerve damage is extensive.  I'll do what I can, but..."

:  We have no water.

"Yeah.  At least the merchants are keeping the husk occupied for us."

19th Limestone

The caravan guards are dead.  The merchants and their horses and the husk fight, they seem evenly matched so far.  I issue the order to withdraw from the surface entirely.  The situation is getting out of hand.

A skulking reptilian thief has popped up next to the carnage.  He looks nonplussed.

20th  Limestone

This is getting us nowhere.  Most of us can't even get past the carnage to get to the complex.  Case in point I am stuck outside, unable to crawl past the husks, no one is brave enough to come get me either, it seems.  So we reform the militia and join the fray.  I was hoping the merchants would lose and leave me their loot.  Oh well.

23rd Limestone

Dr. Imp arrives and commences boxing the husk.

And then some migrants arrive.

Welcome to Umbral, gents.  Could one of you drag me to a bed by any chance?

*Laughs and laughs*

Oh yes, I approve.

And I wish you a lot of luck.  Still following this closely, and with enjoyment.  Good luck!  Everyone dying plays heck with the rest of the story that hasn't been told yet!

Noooo... we've got screenies of them dying.  But boot to the head won't cut it - you need to behead or bisect them.  Anything else is a total (though possibly entertaining) waste of time.
