Keep riding the minecart. Test to see if crystals are edible by licking them.

EXAMINE SURROUNDINGS USING PICKAXE
You get back to work. [10] A swing of your pickaxe, a sickening crack- the rock wall crumbles before you, revealing an tunnel- or a cave, you can't tell if it's natural or not- studded with glowing crystals. The light is brilliant. The heat is sweltering. [1] Nausea sweeps over you like a tidal wave, and you pass out.

You awaken in a bed as your chain begins to tug at your legs. You... thought there was something important. To remember? Something?

[6] Yes, there was definitely something. But you should forget about it.

HIT CHAIN WITH ROCK WITH A FURYYY OF A THOUSAAANDDD SLUTS!
[7] You hit your chain with a rock. You are instantly rewarded with a wave of nausea and a splitting headache. Is it you, or are waves of nausea really common around here, like, whenever you try to do anything.

Yes, it is you. Forget about it.

Keep riding the minecart. Test to see if crystals are edible by licking them.
The cart takes you into tunnels you have never seen before. The walls have been smoothed somewhat, the dust has been swept to the sides of the tunnel, and lights are placed more regularly.
[1] You are violently yanked from the cart. Your chains bite into your legs as the cart rattles away undeterred, and a burning sensation in your pocket tells you that the crystal is gone. [9] Looks like the rails for the chains stop here, which is why you were pulled from the cart. Doesn't explain how you lost the crystal, though. This is very interesting. You should make a point of remembering this.

smash two crystals together.  use clothing to make torch if possible.  shaft of pickaxe is handle of torch.
[2] You think you thought a thought, but you have forgotten it. You should get back to work.

Say "Fuck it", and summon some cookies for us all to enjoy.
[2] You have a tea party in the dark, before passing out and waking up in bed. [9] You have an incredible urge to eat some cookies.

Forget about it.

Get back to work.  Stash half a day's ration, and attempt to wake early the following shift.  trace chains to point of orgin.  Prepare ambush if determined to be ideal.  Escape chambers if possible.

((btw, while I know about the basics of by-the-book dnd, I have never role played in person.  Are those numbers dice-rolls?))

So...Is this a 1d10 you're rolling? And, is the 1 or 10 the worst...?

Pick up a pickaxe, if I don't already have one, and hit things at random.

Get back to work.  Stash half a day's ration, and attempt to wake early the following shift.  trace chains to point of orgin.  Prepare ambush if determined to be ideal.  Escape chambers if possible.
You get back to work. [5] Work is dull. You hadn't really noticed how dull it was before. In fact, you have difficulty remembering what it is you actually do. Right now you appear to be using a pickaxe to mine away at a wall, but you have no idea why.
[2] It is good to work, though. Doing other things would not be a good idea. You spend a while working.

Gather materials for a better bed!
[8] This bed is uncomfortable. Not surprising, in that it is a piece of wood with some blankets on it. You grab all the blankets from the beds within reach of your chains and bundle them up, then sling the bundle over your shoulder.
[2] You really shouldn't do that. Your chains suddenly jerk you away, and you fall over, desperately trying to scrabble yourself upright as you are dragged through the dust. [4] You fail- the chains drag too fast. But you manage to position yourself as that the bundle of blankets takes the majority of the punishment.

find small bits of crystals and consume it.
[8] You get back to work. Instead of placing the shards of crystal into the waiting cart, however, you try eating it. Tastes like blood. No, wait, that's just your bleeding gums from when you tried to eat a rock. Wow, you keep doing stupid things like that.
...
[4] You really shouldn't do that.

Pick up a pickaxe, if I don't already have one, and hit things at random.
[9] You still have your pick-axe. You try hitting some stuff. [9] You hesitate before hitting your chains. Predictably, a wave of nausea hits you, but you are ready for it. You try hitting them again, and are rewarded with the *crack* of a link breaking.
...
[7] Wait, what. You really shouldn't do that, but you just did. You do it again, until your chains are broken and loose. You are free. Free! Free in a dark claustrophobic tunnel, with nothing but rags and a pickaxe, and no idea where anything else is, and a constant feeling of nausea- but that's still freedom.

KEEP DIGGING! KEEP REMEMBERING THINGS!
[4] You get back to work. You have a nagging sensation that you've forgotten something still, but can't quite remember what it was.

Keep stashing small portions of food.  Stop trying to remeber things (so as to rember on accident).  Count rocks mined.
