Legend d20 system: Would you like to play a game?
« on: September 08, 2012, 06:31:42 pm »

Legend is a d20 RPG system that came out a while ago. It was, to my knowledge, built largely to rectify the problems had in D&D editions 3.5 and 4. It was designed to provide the best gaming experience to players, and built on the assumption that a group of players is there to have fun, and time spent not having fun is a Bad Thing. Rules are built to be clear, character creation is streamlined but has a gazillion options, and money is abstracted because while random item generation tables are fun, bookkeeping isn't, for DM or for player. It's currently in beta with an impending v1.0 release, and the core document is currently free here. All the official expansion material is free, here.

The entire system is incredibly robust; in fact, while built for a standard-ish fantasy setting, the first adventure module released takes place in modern Japan.

It's gone fairly unnoticed on Bay12, so I'm seeing if anyone would be willing to play or help run a game. Fantasy setting (as of yet unconstructed) and I promise it won't be as bad as my 3.5 game (at least partially since I'm in college 12 hours from home)

I would be willing to play (and depending on what you mean by it help run)

I dunno if this game could ever become a major game for me, but I have been wanting to give it a try.

I also want to give it a go. Seems interesting.

Sure.

Been meaning to get my hands into non-RTD adventures like this, seems alright. (Hasn't clicked on any links.)

I would like to get into a game of this, although my schedule might conflict. We'll see.

Yeah, I suggest reading the main doc before going a-character sheeting. It has a pretty good intro to TRPGs.

And I blame the inordinately long license on Wizards of the Coast.

I'm looking at the main document.

You could cover an entire donut shop with the glaze on my eyes.

It actually seems pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

Although one thing I have noticed is this game is a lot more deterministic then other games. As in. A lot of attacks are auto hit and do a certain amount of damage. It's been a while since I have played a combat based game like this, so it will be interesting.

Anyway. What were you thinking about world wise Redwarrior?

I'm interested.

EDIT: Plot armor? Arrangements? (legendary abilities). I like this already.

Still not sure, other than nothing too... drastic (yet).

@derm: What exactly do you want to know? Everything? Character creation? Much of it is similar to an RTD, but in a more in-depth manner.

I've never run a old fashion D20 with a sheet. Except for once a long time ago but my sheet was essentially made for me.

I'm just having trouble with the scale of things I think? What exactly am I supposed to be looking at, I guess. Am I building a character now? What setting? Can I make a wizard or... sage or whatever the hell is the magic guy?

So everything. I'll take a look over and see if I can make something.

IS IT FIRST LEVEL?

I guess it's currently just getting familiar with the system.

Magic guys are Tactician and Shaman, I guess because they wanted to break molds.

They can chose between close combat abilities via just blade that do some damage and debuffing, or with Arcane lore they can make areas of effect that damage and debuff. Force of will has healing and buffing. They also have a number of spell like abilities.
