the most dangerous type of lycanthrope
« on: September 08, 2012, 12:13:03 am »

I was sitting around, playing with mah dwarves, when all of a sudden I get the standard "THE WERESHREW *insert name* HAS COME! NOW YOU KNOW WHY YOU FEAR THE NIGHT!!!" good, he is on the edge, ive got time to lock down ever- NOPE! the screen centers not on the edge of the map, but near my pastures. "Oh shi-" I think "one of the new migrants is a wereshrew!" it tears through my goats and most of my animals then suddenly turns back to his regular form. to my utter surprise, its not one of my dwarves. its a goblin. a goblin SNATCHER. the he showed up in wereshrew form and snuck undetected all the way up to the fort before being spotted.

this is dangerous. very dangerous, what if it had been a dwarf who had spotted him? technically, would he target buildings? or would he carry out his snatcher objective and go after children? I imagine the result would be worse than being thrown into a sack.

In adventure mode, there was once a Dwarf who found a were-mammoth...

How can this be weaponized?
With migrants.

Well I just recently got were(lizard? Snake? Can't remember...) that sneaked nearly all the way to my fort - that is, I got the report of werebeast just as it was near my bridge near my fort entrance that is almost in the center of my 2x2 embark. And it turned into a peasant, a dwarfen one, if I am not mistaken.

I am guessing that op's weregoblin did not in fact sneak upon the fort in it's regular snatcher form and then transformed, but that sneaking is also an acceptable approach for ALL webeasts.

But I could be wrong, of course.

I had to abandon 2 forts in the same world to were elephants.
in the first fort they infected the axe lords ...
then 2 of the axe lords turned up at the next fort. but the show down between the vampire sheriff and the were elephant militia captain was awesome.

Why does this sound like something that would turn up as a movie on Syfy? :D

* They hunger
* They thirst
* They injure
    *They just don't really mind it in the long term.

Also it's better to train them as a wrestler/biter first, then give them a weapon to specialize in. They become unstoppable.

Supposedly, thirst and hunger get cured by transformations, and werebeasts transform often enough to avoid death by either.
