Author Topic: M.O.R.E. - Old school style 4X that seeks to bring back the LOVE! - Kickstarter  (Read 4083 times)

I was browsing through the Kickstarter site and stumbled upon this.  The devs are a 10 man team from the US, Poland, and Germany that work for a living and have started working on this game as a weekend hobby they want to take more full time.   They claim the old classics like Master of Orion (1 and 2) and other 4X games as their inspiration, and want to bring back the classic old-style feel without giving into the overly modern but shallow systems of today.

They seek only enough to pay for the time and effort it takes to complete the game, and anything over their minimum goal of $50,000 will be given for added content and a more polished experience.   M.O.R.E (Military. Organization. Research. Economy.) will feature 20! fully created and fleshed out races, with each race having their own specially designed GUI, with their own variable tactics and the like.  The game will be fully 3D, as well.

If anyone is interested, check it out here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1447560584/more-oldschool-turn-based-4x-space-strategy-game?ref=category

I'm personally excited for M.O.R.E., after all the failed modern sci-fi 4X games that have come out recently.  I hope I'm not the only one.  8)

Pretty words, but I've been disappointed by pretty much every 4X I've gotten recently. I'll probably take a wait-and-see stance on this one; after all, Aurora will always be there for me, for free. :3

Still, $10 is a reasonable price, and if they do come through, I'll likely pick it up. Certainly the best-sounding of any of the recent 4Xes to be debuted.

Here is a question: Is this a "One research at a time" game?

Honestly... I can't be the ONLY one who finds that odd in 4x games.

I once played a game where dragons fight sentient flying missles and even that allowed you to research every type of research at once (As a tip: The Sorcerous is actually specialised in Light Infantry... Her Light Infantry are as good as Heavy. Allowing for strong mobile attackers)

Yep I even got one as a rather precious random gift from someone in the forums.

and I am ashamed that I found it to be... kinda garbage (and mind you, I may rag on games like Terraria A LOT... but even I like and see the genuin fun and quality in it. This however was just a terrible game). I can't even play it. Oddly enough even they cannot tollerate it when I asked them about it.

Basically to put it in perspective. Take the SLOWEST 4X game that isn't Aurora you can think of... This is probably about 5 times worse. No really you can be over 200 turns in and havn't done ANYTHING and the game has such inertia.

Agree with a lot of disappointing 4x, Legend of Pegasus being one. However, it's unfair to discard any potentially good new titles just by looking at historical trend.

Now about MORE, the presentation video is great. Loving the galactic map and alien designs. However, combat mechanics seem to be too simple for my taste,or probably they just have not represented it accurately. I will definitely be watching for this one.

OK Neonivek, you have piqued my curiousity; what is the name of this game? About M.O.R.E., it does seem to have a few interesting ideas, although the 3D galaxy map does make me a bit wary.

I got a weird feeling off of how they're presenting it. They immediately describe their game as a 'worthy successor', but it's fishy for anyone but reviewers to say something like that. 'Oldschool', too, for that matter. The fact they've named the game like some political strategy doesn't help. I realize we're running out of <space-reference>-<government/conquest synonym> combinations, but it's just begging for trouble to try to make an acronym out of an empty sales pitch. They're also throwing a lot of numbers and adjectives around without a lot of real detail - unusual technological tree, 189 minor types of galaxies (they're major types in the video =P), animated 3d cutscenes (from the quality of the animations shown I'd rather get slides of more detailed art, personally), etc.

Just not selling it for me. Maybe if they reveal some more about the setting/gameplay and how it all comes together. I do like the idea of megaprojects serving as micromanagement-killers, but that's not enough to make a good game. Also, needlessly ugly and asymmetric aliens. Worst sci-fi pet peeve I have, right up there with forgetting about the difference between 'galaxy' and 'universe'.

So many kickstarters... So many 4x games...

$50k seems low, too, even if you just consider salaries for a year or so.

Hello AndonSage! Thank you for your support and spreading the news.
Yes, 50.000$ will be sufficient to finish our project, because we will invest into it our own money and time. In addition if we succeed with Kickstarter project, we will have additional sponsor, as well the cost of living in Poland is slightly smaller than the U.S. or Western Europe.

The graphical design looks sweet and they're saying all the right words, but I'm gonna need to see an actual gameplay video before I back this one.

Sins of a Solar Empire 2...

Not sure if you mean SotS 2 or SoaSE: Rebellion.

I love SotS 1 (with all the expansions), but haven't bought SotS 2 because I anticipated it not being worth buying until there was at least one expansion for it.

I asked for the second (and recieved it as a very generous gift later) because of how good I heard the first was...

But it is rather impenetrable.
