How to deal with refuse piles in zombie areas?
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:07:48 pm »

So I've had a giant mosquito corpse fight and kill my two dogs from the get go though they did a number over on him, and later my dogs came up from being dead. Now I'm worried that what we'd butcher for meat would end up rising up against our walls craving blood even though you're just a tail bone crawling along the ground >.> What should I do?

Be a vegetarian. Dump all refuse down a pit where no one can see it ever again.

I usually have a refuse pile by the butchers shop, deep in the fortress. Next to the pile I place a garbage dump zone and an atom smasher.

Go with a quantum minecart refuse pile to save space.  Requires (1) mine cart and (1) construction material (wood, stone, stone/wood blocks).

Code: [Select]
...
.>Q
...

. = input pile
> = minecart stop that dumps in direction of Q
Q = quantum pile

If it's a reanimating biome, then you could also setup a bridge to atom-smash the "Q" tile.  Put 2 rings of wooden spiked ball weapon traps around the refuse pile.  May as well surround the butcher shop with a ring of weapon traps while you're at it.

If necromancers are your worry, make sure you have weapon and cage traps in the corridors leading to the refuse pile and butcher shop.
