Fun fact, praying mantises get their heads bitten off during sex because they have two separate nervous systems, and the one controlling the hum, business... cannot work properly as long as the primary brain-based one is online.

It's actually a very interesting evolutionary trait, biting off the head of the male ensures that the females offspring will have no competitors with her chosen mates genes, which means the female who gets to the strongest male first not only ensures that her genes are passed on in the best possible way but also that no other female can have the same advantage. Also the male gives the female the extra advantage of being well fed for the difficult process of laying the eggs. It also accounts for why it is far more common in a high-stress or low-food environments, as it gives the females offspring a much better chance of survival, which is all the more important in an environment where they will struggle more than usual.

I have been out and about, making babies mostly. So there's that. In preparation for this brood, I put in an average of 70 working hours a week; that leaves me one day off, which is Sunday.

No need to worry about the head-eating. As I understand it, the Mantislady is the one who will eat the Mantislord's head off. Which, as I understand it, is the matrix which forms most male-female relationships within humanity as well. So we have that to look forward to.
