Floor grates and other noob questions

My first surviving adventurer(thank you rock knapping and throwing) has two quests that i need some help to complete. First is to kill a fishman in the sewers. I found my fish, he is visible through floor grate but i haven't found a way to get to him. Second is a vampirehunt in a vilage. How do i find the vampire from all those peasants?

1. Look for a sewer entrance on the map. Good luck. Leave bread crumbs.
2. Ask the peasants how you may be of service, they will point you in the right direction, house by house till you find the roof which the bloodsucker resides within.

You can't throw anything through grates :/

I would be happy enough if I knew how to throw at different z levels.

Simply move the cursor for choosing the target up or down a z-level like you would in fortress mode for designations, then choose the target on the different z-level.
