I've got a really strange problem.
My fortress has a central entrance in the mountainside. I want to dig a big staircase up and down from there:

. = dug out.

This last area has been designated (correctly aligned to the entrance z-level) but the dwarves never start digging it, as if they can't reach it.

EDIT: Nevermind, after I posted this topic, ate dinner, and unpaused DF2, they suddenly started digging. I don't know why it happened though. It had been designated two seasons ago, but only now did they notice apparently.
