Right, I can finally get working.
Name: Geogun Syskon
Age: 92
Description (Physical): Mr. Syskon is a heavy-set man appearing to be around half of his actual age, patches of grey entering his short, neatly-cropped hair. This is a meticulously planned appearance that discreet medicinal use would eliminate completely. His steel-grey eyes complement broad, cragged features. Despite first impressions, his impressive bulk conceals more muscle than fat.
Description (Background): Mr. Syskon comes from a family of soldiers on Nova Babylonya, and has personally served several terms in the People's Corps. He is experienced in political matters and joined the Party at the age of 28. Mr. Syskon has served as both the head of the youth's wing and the secretary for the party before his ascension to the head of the party by internal vote. Mr. Syskon is expected to appease both moderates and hardliners with his 'Republican Guard Initiative' and has promised to break the federal government's suffocating grip on trade and innovation.
As Governor of New Babylon, Mr. Syskon is expected to increase funding for research and industrial production in key areas, and resetting the teetering arms industry on track.
For the upcoming election, Mr. Syskon and the AFP have not offered any official statement, but political specialists have set down Maxwell Hayes as their most likely candidate for the position of Lord-President, after the party failed to come up with a candidate of their own.
Traits: - Planetary Governor (Titled, as tradition dictates, Supreme Premier)
- Arms Baron (Starts with arms trade route/the stuff needed to form an arms trade route. Presumably the guns and the money/ships.)
- Established Politician (Member and current Spokesman (that is, leader) of the Autonomy and Freedom Party - a wholly NPC entity, unless other players join, acting under the goals and motivations laid out below. Fil didn't seem to have any problem with this when I discussed it in the chat yesterday, but *shrug*.)
Political Party Name: the Autonomy and Freedom Party (AFP)
Short-term Goals: Disbandment of federal army, to be replaced with a Republican Guard made up of planetary forces, raised by governors in times of crisis. Loosening of federal restrictions on trade. Loosening of federal restrictions on technology, including abolishment of remaining resctrictions on AI research.
Long-term Goals: Abolishment of all federal laws, restrictions and taxes, changing the federal government and the position of the Lord-President into more of an advising and ceremonial body. Formation of a Republican Navy along the same lines of the Army.
Support: Governors and populations of trade and industrial hubs, younger colonies
Planet Name: Nova Babylonya, commonly known as New Babylon or Neo-Babylon
Planet Description: When surveyors discovered New Babylon, they discovered a verdant world teeming with native life. Though the world was not actually fit for human inhabitation, a massive colonization drive started after material of the planet began feeding back towards the core of the federation. The name came from a surveyor who saw in the natural terraced jungle plateaus of the world the 'Hanging Gardens of Babylon', an obscure historical reference. Several other names were suggested, but New Babylon eventually stuck.
Sadly, poorly-planned terraforming projects would prove to be the end of New Babylon's booming conditions. Attempts to make the air breathable to humans ended up destroying the vast majority of the world's native life - when the would-be colonists arrived, they found a wasteland of dead or dying vegetation, ash clouds from the vast jungles burning blocking out the sun for weeks at a time. Many of them were too poor to make a return trip home, however, especially the colonists of an alliance of short-lived socialist fleet-states. They formed the majority of the world's coming population and their descendants still do so today.
Eventually, though, the terraforming came to a successful end. Human-native plant life was introduced in droves into fertile soil, and new forests practically formed overnight. The world's terrain, specifically the iconic plateaus where the capital is located today, remained intact, so new 'Gardens of Babylon' were formed soon enough. They heavily influence building styles even in the present day. Colonists began trickling in again, marketing campaigns sponsored by the Lord-President's office itself generating new interest in the scarred world.
In more recent events, New Babylon infamously threw its support behind the planet Lednin in the bloody Lednin Secession. Though pardoned for this after the war was over, it was never quite favoured again like it had been in the past. This, and its distant location from the core of the federation, indirectly caused a buildup of autonomist and even secessionist fervor that continues to grip the world.
Citizen Name: Neo-Babylonian
Government Form: Representative Democracy - the people vote representatives for their districts, who then vote for the new Supreme Premier
Army Name: The People's Defensive Corps

That's about it, I guess. Specifics on how political parties work and what I should do for my second trait (or scrap it altogether?) will be hopefully incoming.
