Amusing skill combinations
« on: September 04, 2012, 09:28:38 am »

Got a recent migrant with the following skills:

Expert woodcutter
High master butcher
Novice wound dresser
Novice animal caretaker

It's like he thought "Hey - I'm real good at cutting things up!  That means I should be able to put them back together, right?"

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

Well, my current fortress has been a non-stop parade of:

Expert cheesemaker - novice fisherdwarf
Proficient herbalist - novice fisherdwarf
Skilled Planter - novice fisherdwarf (And fish cleaner to mix it up a little)
Expert miner - novice fisherdwarf

And so on - it's quite the running joke.

What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.
Check out my RtD!

Best would be

Dabbling Intimidator + Novice Judge of Intent + Proficient Crutch Walker

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

A variant of the OP, I had a dwarf show up as Great Surgeon and Great Butcher. No other professions. I welcomed the surgery, naturally, but I did pause to consider the implications if he forgot which job was which.

The best bonesetter in my one fort was also a master level bonecrafter.  Then he migrated to the following fort and took over the medical department there as well.  Was nicknamed "Dr Bones" as a result.

I had a Great Strand Extractor that doubled as an axedwarf. Now leads part of my military.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.
