Horrible bootleg cavern
« on: September 03, 2012, 03:42:26 pm »

Just hit the cavern in my new file yay! But there is a problem, there is 20+ floors of empty space an at the bottom water, there is random little island with some vegetation on it. But that is it, all the gems are stuck on the wall in the middle of the chasm and hardly no enemies are there because there is no land.

Your task is thus simple.

You build steel dwarven battlecruiser fortress which protects the island from enemies.

But it is like 7 by 7 with a mushroom or 2. I love the caverns and all the new enemies and animal tribes and FB. Might restart with such a lame cavern.

Is there a way to throw a dwarf down there?

Down where? To reach lower caverns, you usually need to dig deeper.

Toss a kitten down. It will send coded mews up until it dies.

Naw, just down to the island.  Get some J.R.R. Tolkien references going here!

I love giant chasms! Don't throw away such an awesome (and rare) feature!
I suggest building a fort which has every room overlooking the chasm :).

Ah.
You could, but the fall would probably be lethal. Try building stairs down instead. Then you can make a pool to toss dwarves into.

You do know you can construct stairs down, into the empty cavern, and down the bottom so you can keep digging?

Well the problem is not the giant chasm, it is that the bottom is just water. ( I lucky dwarf survived the fall and explored a little )
