If you had to choose between these two scenarios, which would you rather the future of humanity be?

Defenseless slave race, always inservice to others, but not having any enemies in particular.
Humans relentlessly conquer the galaxy, inspiring fear and hatred amongst all those which encounter us.

Is this a metaphor for US foreign policy?

So that's why the world seems so uncool lately...

And here I thought it had something to do with an overabundance of CO, but nope, we just need to put the blacks back in their place!

You're thinking too small-scale. Too American (le sneer). We need to go back to the Roman days and practice equal opportunity enslavement, then force all of the slaves and a bunch of random animals to fight for the death for our amusement. The sole survivor would be crowned emperor/empress/emprexes of the entire world. Sounds like a better system of government than what most of us have now, anyways. Even if we end up being lead by a bonobo. Or a bear. A really big bear with sharp claws for leader of the formerly free world?

On the original topic: There are people who don't support Kill Maim Burn as the foreign policy of choice?

I voted for the kill maim burn option.

I mean, especially if we end up with a bonobo king, we need space to grow his bananas. Or garden planets for honey farms for our bear overlord. We have mandates to fulfill, people.

Neither sounds like a fairly pleasant option but if I had to decide I would rather be the space asshole than the space assholed (it is now a word, deal with it). So option 2.

The real question is, what would you do if all of bay12 was cryogenically frozen and woke up in the imperium of man, in the middle of a space hulk?

Well, if I'm going to have to participate in some sort of rebellion, perhaps allied with the inhabitants of many worlds, in order to create justice in the galaxy, I'm going to have to go with humans as the oppressors. I mean, I can at least vaguely understand their strategies. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll forget to think in 3 dimensions.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Actually I'll skip that I said back then and jump to a more immediateconclusion: option  2 could easily lead to option 1 or worse. After all, what is the most likely outcome of being a bully whom everyone else ends up hating? (Ask Hitler)
