Seriously, practice, even if it's just stick figures fighting that you have take turns and erase/redraw the corpses and debris, doodling stick figures helps with coordination, which helps with fine details and in some cases, proportions. I have entire sketchbooks just filled with the debris ridden battlefields of stickmen and their vehicles and robots.

Edit: Also, never give up a leg. No matter how good the deal sounds, the loss of mobility would not be worth it.
