Hopestarved:succession game
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:08:10 pm »

First time trying to find succession players.
Anyone interested in playing?

General world information:
Medium world
Short history
Civilizations set to High
Medium number of sights
Number of Beasts is set to very High and savagery is set to high which should make for some interesting first year "fun"
Mineral occurrence is sparse

Unusual conditions:
No shallow metals, No soil, and No clay. The fortress is in an area of high savagery but not an evil region because everyone and there mother is starting in evil regions.
I've made sure that the area is free of aquifers but there won't be any tree's either so use the wood wisely and try not to anger the elves.
It on a mountain side with extreme cliffs.

Starting equipment:
Tools: 2 Copper picks,1 Copper battleaxe, and 1 steel anvil
Drinks: 40 rum, 20 ale
Seeds: 15 plump helmet spawn, 5 pigtail seeds, 5 cave wheat seeds, 5 sweet pod seeds, 5 rock nuts, 5 dimple cup spawn
Food: 15 meat, 20 plump helmets
Cloth products: 5 thread, 5 cloth, 5 bags, 3 ropes
Misc: 3 crutches, splints, and buckets, 1 wheelbarrow, and 13 pine logs

Rules: Standard
1 year per turn
1 ruler per turn

If you want to write up a story to go with your year go ahead.
(my apologies for the delay in update, modem decided to leave me hanging for the day)

Approved list:
Lightningfalcon
inspiredsimji-complete
Godlysockpuppet-On hold (busy IRL)
GreatWyrmGold-On hold
exolyx
Splint
FlickerFly
Vodrilus
Bataille (MIA)
Exitstratagy (MIA)
CharlesMcFist (Current)

There's not really that much detail in the OP... I don't know about anybody else, but I like to know what I'm getting into.

I agree with Talvieno. And one thing to make sure of is figuring out a way to make the inital years.... Entertaining. It seem some kind of unwritten law dorfs have to die in the first year to be a good fort, though that's not always the case (and personally I think evil biome embarks have been done to death for succession games, but that's just me.)

But anyway, letting your players know what model wood chipper they're sticking thier heads in is generally beneficial to attracting them. Is this going to be some nigh impossible to settle thing? A savage saltwater swamp? A military installation? A glorified ironworks? What is it we're gonna do? Often what makes these great is the narrative that surrounds them, often crafted by the players and those who simply want to participate in the story telling.

While I do agree that a bit more information is needed, I'd be happy to take a turn!

We could still piss off the elves; dorfs and humans can bring wood too (moreso if you fix the diplomats either manually or using DFhack so it can be requested from the humies.) Plus there's always the caverns, which will probably be discorvered by accident during a desperate search for minerals (which, given the typical luck will probably just be a crapload of nigh worthless galena.)

So lets see, Savage terrain? Check. Low minerals? Check. NO FRICKIN TREES? Ohgodcheck. This is almost as bad as the TrialFires world when starting anywhere but the 5 safe areas XD. And thats a world where STANDING OUTSIDE MAKES YOU MELT TO DEATH.

GOOD LUCK! I'll be watching!

You are never lost as long as you have a trusty and reliable Compass. Mine kept pointing North, so I just removed the red Needle! Problem solved!

Then I proceeded to pick up the rest of the bunnies, the masterfully crafted bronze statue, and its head. The head will be his trophy... But I need money.

Inspiredsimji has been granted the first turn, hopefully he won't kill the fortress right away:P I have confidence in his ability to get the ball rolling.

Small rule update: anyone who gets a turn may dorf themselves on the way out. Heck build glorious monuments to yourself, no reason not to.

You open up the file labeled Dwarf Fortress 0.34.11, typing it into the search bar on the start menu will help you find it. Once you have it open double click the folder labeled data, then the one labeled save. Leave that window open and double click the file you downloaded, drag the folder inside labeled region3 into the save file from before then all you have to do is run DF.

Journal of Inspiredsimji Kesmebzuth, Overseer of Zanosshistsak
1st Granite, 126

It's been a long trip, but we're finally here. I've no idea why Queen Kel Urusnish wants an outpost built in this forsaken place. Although now that I think about it, it could be a lot worse. We've got trees, a brook, and some hills. The weather ain't bad, either. This'll be easy compared to the other poor saps that were sent out. Although the name scares me. "Hopestarved". Sounds like a bad place if I've ever heard of one.

((Yep, first update! I recall in the OP it said that there were no trees in this embark, although there are a bunch on the south end of the map? Also, here are the seven dwarves. We've got five open for dorfing.))

Nice first update, as to the trees I can only guess that the edge of the area must overlap into the next biome over where trees where sparse instead.
