As far as I know, there's no such thing as liquid metal.

You can make metal walls, though. Just smelt the ore down and use the bars.

That's basically the same as being destroyed. They have no purpose.

to make statues of invaders that fall in a pit of molten metal of course

Well, I'm sure dwarves will be happy to engrave or make statue of that event, when you finds the right type to do it. Then again, you could obsidian cast the invaders and it'd work better than unusable metal
