In we go.

Dream wallpaper: A bunch of red outlined blood vomiting faces with our good friend mister giggles sitting in a cave in the center of it smiling. I'm beginning to think that guy is this game's uboa.

We're heading to the town. With the invisible effect I'm gonna give getting past the robot guy a shot again. And it works! Inside the building.... is..... a dark room with a little fairy thing floating around. There are tires and very unsettling music. We interact annnnd fairy effect! Holding down the interact button makes her fly in a littlte circle and make a peeping noise. Adorable. Now back to that flying fish world, there's business there too. We climb up the giant tower of blocks and eventually find a little pod on the ground. Interacting gets us the spacesuit effect. It puts urotsuki in a spacesuit and makes her hover above the ground. Action makes her do a little flip. Neat.

We head up and up and farther up still and eventually.... end up where we started. Woah. We keep going as we need to get to another particular area.... but my assumption ends up not being fruitful. We wake up and head to the UFO to see if it's around. But first, dream wallpaper, a sea of blood with eyeballs in it. TV is a green rabbit with a human doll tied around the neck with red string. Huh. We move on.

No UFO. Hmm. Let's go tooo the large grey road area. I want to look around there more. We wander about a good deal and eventually find a staircase into the ground. In we go. We immediately get some upbeat music and a lot of plants. At the end of the hallway we find a one eyed person on a couch. It peeps when we talk. We head onwards into a grassy plain. We wander for a while, the place is huge but I eventually find a cluster of plants that seems oddly inpenetrable. With enough poking and prodding I manage to get to the center, where there are two blue pillars. In I go, to a world filled with floating rocks and alien sounding music. We head up and about, mostly just flying rocks, and we find a strange looking, and more importantly, grounded rock. We interact annnnnnnd we're in a dark alley. Huh. Let us wander.

We basically just follow the path and end up in a dark stairwell. Lotta doors, we head through them and eventually end up in a rusty alleyway. More doorways and we find the teru teru bozu effect. We turn into a little ghost thing that can control thr weather. For you pokemon people out there, castform was inspired by teru teru bozu. Effect allows you to turn rain on and off. We wake up and go to sleep again, to check the UFO. Nothin there. Daggumit. We head to the neon world, to get to the totem world. We head north to the river, pull out teru, rain. Then rainbow, activate. RAINBOOOOOOOOOW bridge. Across we go annnnd there's a purple skinned lady at an altar thing. Interacing gives us the bat effect, which gives us bat wings. This effect is kind've complicated so listen carefully. when you first use the effect she flutters a bit and looks at the ground. THen, you go somewhere else, activate it, and it takes you back to that point. Neat.

Anyway, we bomb back. We head to mushroom world, and to the piano lady's house. We head to that wierd guy in the chair and to his left, into that world with the spinning teacup dudes. We wander, and eventually find a heart surrounded by a circle, and interact. We end up in sign world A lto of signs with faces, and a colorful abstract background. We wander and find a giant pyramid thing with a brown flying thing on it. It vanishes when we reach the top of the staircase, so we turn around. Suddenly the bottom is different. We go to the left and find odd stones which take us to a grassy straight path with bizzare creatures in the background, such as a guy with a cloak and a bizzare black ghost thing with a rake hand. We eventually end up in a bizzare temple area withhaniwas (the modern day depiction specifically) . Which are like... underground gravestone markers. It seems odd but it is a real thing. We find a grey one hopping about and one behind him that won't let us past. Grey one gives us the haniwa effect, which makes us a haniwa. Action makes a little dot on our forehead glow blue and moves the one behind grey guy out of the way. At the top is a little... thing with a hole in it. Interacting starts a full screen effect with six haniwas doing a little dance. Wonderous.

We wake up, sleep, check the UFO. It's there, hooray! We head in and set destination for little red riding hood planet. We land and I head to that one tree with the section missing out of it. Apparently I interacted in the wrong place before because this makes the apple vanish off the tree and gives us the little red riding hood effect. Action makes Urotsuki pull a thing out of her basket and take a bite out of it.

We wake up.

Oh man I played Ib oh man.

That game was great. Seriously. No spoilers, though. Anyone who enjoyed YN needs to give it a shot if they haven't already.

SirAaron's actually been trying to get me to play ib, and I probably will once I finish up yume 2kki. Prolly won't be keeping a journal as I have been though as it's starting to make things more of a chore then anything.

I played Ib last night. It was pretty good. Didn't have the horror that the site led me to believe, but it had some good puzzles. Exploration was enjoyable, to the extent that the path was explorable, but the environments weren't terribly interesting. Worth playing, for sure. Only a few hours long, and the story is decent. I had fun. I may play again to get the best ending.

There's not much reason to keep a journal for Ib, as the game is linear. There are choices you can make, but describing everything would only be entertaining for those who don't want to play it or watch it played.

EDIT: Yume 2kki. Spent at least half an hour in the Purple Neon Maze and travelling back to it after I got caught (which happened 4 times). Found that there is nothing there. Don't bother looking.

Dream TV had a nice surprise for me.

Alrighty, let's get started.

No new TV or Desktop.

We head off to the sign world to begin with and move north from where we come in, via the heart maze, to find a blue and white sign. We interact annnnd teleporter maze! Huh. Let us randomly move in and out of them. We wander forever until we find a white teleporter. We go in and end up on another beach with that awesome guitar riff from way back in the very first update. Full circle.

There's a wolf guy at the end of the beach, interacting gives us the wolf effect. It gives Urotsuki wolf ears and a tail. He also has a sandcastle near him, and a pile of sand with a shovel in it. Effect makes you howl. And when I went to use the bike to leave the area, Wolf+Bike effect! Holding A still makes her howl, no wheelie. Then I remember I need to bomb back, not bike off. So we do that. To the apartments! We head out back to that hole with the tentacles and hop in. Then we head right. And keep going right. The area transitions to an area that looks the exact same, but we keep going and eventually find a white figure cloaked in black mist. Looks like it has an eye. We interact...

Nothin. We continue to the right. More transition, and a double door set. In we go, then more to the right. We find stairs, and head upstairs. Suddenly bloody table and a clown with spring legs. We interact and get a suit! And spring legs. Effect makes us bounce, and if you hold it down her hat falls over her eyes and she readjusts it. When we leave the room we end up in dream apartments, coming out of one of the locked doors.

Now, off to japan area place! We head into the dark museum and suddenly are unable to interact with anything or go through doors. Instead we phase through the walls. Feature or bug? Who can say? We wake up and it seems to solve itself, whew. TAKE TWO.

After wandering through the dark museum and realizing that's not how to get there, I go back to the neon world and go through the maze area to get to it. We end up there eventually and go into that dark alley that I think I mentioned going down. I head farther down instead of heading into the second alley in the alley (it makes sense) and end up in an area with random chunks of japanese architecture floating around, and also ladders. We wander. We eventually find a guy with no arms or legs (litterally, they're bandaged up) and blue skin, in a streetlight. We interact and get the crippled effect! Urotsuki has a broken arm, and in a kind've morbidly hilarious way, when you hold the effect button, all urotsuki does is say her "I can't do that" phrases that I can't quite make out.

Anyway. Back to the apartments. So from there we head to the dock area and wander about. I know there's a thing here now and I will find it with the help of a map. We start seeing red scarecrow things sticking out of the water and eventually we end up at a submarine. There's a green haired lady outside it with her feet in the water and a guy dressed in red with a gasmask and a cigar. HE makes a crackling noise, and the green haired lady makes a beep noise. I ride around nearby for a while until it opens up and I hop in. The music is honestly kinda erratic and "metallic" sounding. We interact with the lady and the walls suddenly turn transparent. Huh. We can sit at the single unoccupied seat too, but if we interact there's a clicking noise and the lady looks at you dissaprovingly. Buzzkill. Anyway, we wait for a while.

Eventually the radar sound becomes deeper and the background scrolling slows down. That's our cue. We head out and wander the seabed. The music is suitably melancholy. We see hands. Lots of hands. We carry on farther and eventually find more strange sights such as a dude with a deformed head bending over and a bed. We also find an egg which we can enter and find a.... small room with a bed in it, and an egg, reminiscent of the eggs you find when you drop effects in yume nikki, that looks like urotsuki's shirt. Like, has the pattern on it. We interact and get an effect, the child effect. It shrinks Urotsuki down. Effect makes her jump and fall to the ground clutching her head. Hmmm.

One more effect to go. We head to the christmas world. We end up there and visit the kid we gave the present to, and she's up and walking around! Yaaaaaaaaaaay. She also appears to be a pallette swapped version of urotsuki. Curious. We wander and find a tree smaller then the rest. Interacting with it plays a deep rumbling noise and puts us in an area with a ton of empty glass cases. There's a tree in the one we came out of. Hmm. We wander and find a normal tree in a case, and a brown mannequin guy with frankenstein bolts coming out of his head. We interact...

 and end up in an area with warped music and nails stuck in the ground EVERYWHERE. Kind've unsettling. We follow a nail path and find a hexagonal building and enter. We find ourselves in a path with nails lining it, with a red background and a windy noise in the background. Along the path we find boxes that flash images at us like flow in the broken down palace area. You can make out distorted faces in them. We continue until we find another and end up in a white room with windows and teddybears floating by the windows. We move on through and end up on the other side. A fleeting dream I suppose. We end up outside the boundries of the path. Wandering eventually finfs us three nails in a pool of blood. Interact...

We end up in a white void with brown cardboardish looking human cutouts. ALso garbage bags. We wander about and find more of the same, and eventually a giant building. We enter and find a bunch of... well junk. Cabinets, boxes, old broken down machines, you name it. We head across the room and into a hallway. We look around there, just more junk. We head up two floors at the end of the hallway, find yet more junk, and a door with light coming out of it. We go in there, and find a rotating flat triangle thing on the roof of the building. This gets us the polygon effect. Holding A turns urotsuki from a flat mono colored textureless cube person into a flat textured cube person.

We wake up.

We go back to sleep. Endings follow, so scroll up and close the spoiler if you're not interested.

Ending 1. We go deposit all our effects. The pedestal of each one lights up as we do. We wake up.

Nothing appears to have changed... so we wake up again. The screen fades to black. We end up in a black void where we can't move in any direction. No button does anything except menu, so we, uhh, wake up again. We are lying on the ground with a bunch of books next to us. We stand up, grab the books, and put them on the shelf and leave the room. IT WAS ALL A DREAM. As big a cop out as it is in most other games I'm just glad to get a happy ending frankly. The credits scroll, it shows the various dream backgrounds you can get while names scroll by. a lot of mostly nonsense english and numbers. I see lol there too, who is the guy who made flow, so suspicions confirmed. He will haunt me until the end of my days.

But then at the end it dumps you back to the game as if you never did it to begin with. I know this is probably a convinience thing but MAYBE IT MEANS SHE'S TRAPPED IN A NEVER ENDING DREAM MOBIUS STRIP AAAAAAAAAH. Prolly not but it's a thought.

Ending 2. We deposit all of our effects, they light up as usual. We wake up, and go outside onto the balcony. There's a staircase going up above the railing. You walk up...

And then walk off. She falls past all the dream creatures she's seen in the dream world, and then it goes to a simplistic brownish drawing of her lying on the ground, with a dark shadow or blood around her. It zooms out to a crane game machine. A small girl in a sunhat is walking away from it presumably with her mother, holding a doll of urotsuki. The next scene is her sleeping at home with the urotsuki doll next to the bed. D'awwww. At the end we find out it's ED 03. Look I'm doing it my own way game okay.

Ending 3. Drop off effects, wake up, go out onto the balcony. She walks onto it....

And if you walk off it, she grabs it and tosses it over the edge. Atta girl. The ending credits feature her riding along on her bike past all of the dream creatures. As she rides by her childhood self she looks towards it. At the end she walks off her motorcycle through some flowers and enters a house. Huh. Left home maybe? Who can say.

So, stuff we missed.

So, we probably missed a metric asston of stuff, because yume 2kki is HUGE and I know I probably didn't even see half the game, much less all of it, so I'm just mentioning stuff I know off the top of my head. One, in a dark alley of some kind, I never went there, if you go into a room with a lit up window?

You enter Madotsuki's room from Yume Nikki. It has a neon motif and everything but it's definitely madotsuki's room. If you stay too long, static occurs and you're booted back to the alley.

And the lady with the rabbits in streetlight world? If you use the geisha effect to bow in front of her there's a full screen event where she dances. Nothing crazy but.

In the dream apartments, when the TV shows the shadow woman, sometimes if you turn it off, the shadow woman appears in the room. Does nothing, but, if you turn it on again, another chaser will appear. and another, and another ,etc. Once the room fills with them, it goes dark, and you leave the room, only to get caught by a fox masked man on the way down the stairs, waking you up.

Remember the multicolored area where you get the tuba? If you head to the back, you find a sign with a tall person and $ on it. You need the tall effect and money to get in the door behind it, where all the chasers through the game, including fox guy are. Sometimes the fox guy attacks you, everyone else is okay. When the fox guy doesn't, if you chainsaw him, he'll flip around behind you and dodge it.

In the forest area, if you chainsaw the one sane lady there, and run down the hole where we got lamp, and come back up, the world will have turned red and bloody, and the giant white rocks turn into giant eyeballs. Also the place is swarming with shadow ladies.

If you chainsaw the guy that gives you the cripple effect, the place swarms with shadow ladies and the music becomes more ominous.

If you stay in the bathrooms in the japan hotel place with all the shadow people too long, you turn into a black blob monster thing.

And the only thing I can think of off the top of my head left, in the blood world that we briefly visited in an early update, if you wander enough you'll find a giant tangled up mass of white cords with a giant inflated head on the end of it, crying blood. If you chainsaw it, it groans loudly, then all of the nearby NPCs "hold you down" and let chasers getcha and teleport you to a secluded area as usual. This is not even half of all the crap we missed, just what I remembered. This game is MASSIVE.

Now, let's talk endings. First ending, she just wakes up, she was dreaming in a dream, simple. Third ending, she finally gets over herself and manages to get outside and finds out it indeed isn't so bad. Also simple. Two... well, look at the girl that gets the doll. Very closely. She has pigtails. And when it zooms in on her bedroom window, IT IS THE DESIGN ON MADOTSUKI'S SHIRT. It's implied that Madotsuki got an urotsuki doll. Even more crazy junk then we thought.

And fourth, seems to me, to be a train that takes you to the afterlife, as is an interpretation of such things from time to time, and to me at least, implies that she died in her sleep. There had to be at least one sad ending I guess.

And finally, comparisons.

Honestly, I liked yume 2kki, and for a collab a lot of the stuff is very nice and high quality, but I feel the collab thing hurts it a tad, namely, it seems more like it's just a bunch of random dreams. In flow and nikki, there was an underlying theme usually, you saw a lot of aztec stuff in nikki, and a lot of more disturbing organic stuff in flow, mostly mouths and eyes. 2kki just doesn't have that theme for all it needs it. Aside from this it's pretty great.

Positives, I like that all the effects did something, even if they weren't always terribly useful, and the mixed effects are REALLY neat. The wallpapers I initially thought were going to be dumb but it ends up it was one of the best parts of the game to me. I also thought the endings were gonna be bad but they ended up pretty awesome too.

Overall? I think I still like .flow more. 2kki is great and the large amount of content does wonders for a game like this, but at the end of the day the lack of a unified theme and the fact that the wierd stuff doesn't tend to be as wierd or notable compared to nikki or 2kki, leaves it feeling kind've muted. Still a great game, and I think it beats nikki just by the virtue of all the content, but it seems to definitely be a quantity over quality thing, which seems to be how a lot of 2chan projects, like the VIP mario series, end up, for better or worse.

And so it's over. Not gonna do any journals at least not any soon, so until then this thread is either gonna have to sink or swim. If it's still in a reasonable state by the time I get back to this I might continue posting in it or let it die.

So despite the difficulties with getting the thread off the ground, yume nikki is a wonderful thing that made a bunch of other wonderful things, and I hope decent games of a similar type end up coming out well into the future because they are the best.

Madotuki. Also thank you to random guy on pixiv, according to where I got that. All the little dudes there are characters of fangames. You can probably recognize urotsuki or sabitsuki if you've played the games, they're hugging the neck.

So I said I'd let this thread sink or swim and it seems to have mostly sunk, but I'd just like t ogive a shout out to a really neat game "Me". From what little I've played it's shaping up kind've like .flow, and as a result is pretty awesome. Definitely scary so be aware of that.

A link to the wiki page (which has a link to the download). Another note is that IT'S IN ENGLISH and as a result you don't have to jump through flaming hoops to get it running.

This is the worst thing.
I have so much trouble deciding whether .flow is worth playing again with each update. I haven't even completed 2kki yet, so it's a question of starting over or not there. I have yet to for either. I have .flow v.17 and Yume 2kki v.097g. So behind.

Yep, .10++fix is the most recent! The game is feature complete at that stage too so it shouldn't go into the spiral of eternal updates a lot of these games seem to get trapped in sometimes. Three endings, 6 effects, and 25 "orbs" that you need to get all the endings, like LCD Dem which I haven't played.

Annnnd I don't think the .flow update added a whole ton so don't feel tooooo compelled. I think it just altered some maps a bit, I think .flow is pretty much feature complete too.

Started playing Me. Wow. I stopped playing Me. Horror + no clue what's going on. It's pretty amazing.
I already have two puddles of liquid in my room, whatever those mean.

Me theory following, it involves seeing one particular event that involves being rushed by a small rabbit-ey (I think?) thing as soon as you enter a room, and getting to an area filled with chasers. So if you haven't, and you care, steer clear!

So if you noticed in the chaser area (the fan name is teru, so teru area), there are a bunch of heads with eyes in it that are cracked open. If you notice in the one event Me gets bum rushed by the thing and then the event plays, during the event ME'S HEAD CRACKS OPEN. Curious. Inner eye or sommat? Still kinda light, it's hard to say.
