Dreams of cruelty DF2014 continue and they're meta as ever.

This time, Toady posted a devblog that he's pretty much done with the bugfixing and among other things he said this:
Quote from: Dream ToadyOne
[...] a normal game dev would say that "a new game version has been released". I'd say that "DF2014 is done.".

Later on he mentioned that he'll be livestreaming DF2014, but won't release it at the same time so the servers don't blow up. (something to that effect)
He also said "no storytelling".
Later on I was browsing the Bay12 (probably some upper board thread due to the forum style) and he posted something about implementing sniper rifles into DF and that they're pretty much bug-free and linked to some other post about it.

Then I was browsing the Awesomenauts forums and saw a notorious amount of people posting about national socialists, including one of the game devs who posted a link to some site about the subject.

I don't usually remember my dreams (those that I do remember are pretty bland) but one that I had some time ago involved my house being a boat. Not living in a houseboat, but the house I live in (which is bigger than the vast majority of private house boats) was in the middle of a lake.
Then I left the hose on (or couldn't turn it off, or something) and the neighbour's lake(?) flooded (somehow). They were understandably pissed off at my gross disregard for the laws of physics and did something, I don't know what, but it ended with me pushing some guy in a wheelchair away from a giant tidal wave.

There was another bit (I think this was a separate dream) where me and Wheelchair Guy where prancing around some pseudo-Germanic village where everyone lived underground and had red doors. My aunt was there, but she was a crazy German woman.
((Side note: I do have an aunt who is a kind-of-crazy sort-of part-German, so this is not too far from the truth.))

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I've been having semi-horrific dreams of living alone in the world with no trace of everyone else disappearing. But I still hear movement from time to time in those dreams.

I was a member of a squad of about fifty people. We were tasked with preventing a similar size squad of enemies from coming over a terraced hill; we were on the south side. I was detached from the rest of the squad for reasons I don't know; it was dark, and I was sitting by a campfire. It cast light for a few meters in every direction, allow me to read a map I had that inexplicably revealed when an enemy moved within five hundred meters. It also showed the location of the rest of my squad; they were some hundred meters ENE of me.

I dozed off, knowing that I was able to read the map even in my sleep. I did not dream. I woke when the map informed me that the entire enemy detachment had just crested the rise. I began firing in their direction, I have no cooking clue what with. It was some kind of red streaks, and I definitely didn't have a gun, whilst attempting to alert the rest of my squad. Before I could do anything significant, the opposition launched a flank maneuver and captured my squad. A moment later, they were upon me too.

I do not know what purpose I served, or why the hill was important, but I do know that we failed dramatically.

Spiders. In particular, one the size of a dinner plate. And it didn't like me.

I had one particulary creepy dream in which
this chased me into my own house
once inside i was trapped in an infinite maze of halls and stairs being chased and running into above creature and hearing his creepy voice scream at me all the while trying to not get covered in the blood that was seeping from the walls
and im pretty sure echo and the bunny man was playing in the background

I was horrified

This is an older dream from a month or two back. For some reason I haven't typed it up until now.

I was an undead warlord or something of the type, though I was in very good shape and you probably wouldn't be able to tell I was dead from looking at me. I and my army were raised by a guy who was apparently retired from the US army and bent on world domination for whatever reason. But before I could be put to work, I had to compete against others who he considered hiring to make sure I was the army he chose. I won the competition (which is good, failure would've meant we were sent back to our graves) with my superior undead training, also turns out a skeleton can learn to use a rifle pretty quickly.

After winning the competition the campaign began, starting somewhere in the US. We were already dead so we had the advantage. But at some point after annihilating one town, some girl survived, escaped, and became completely obsessed with me, she began following us from a slowly decreasing distance. I sent undead soldiers after her, undead soldiers who never came back.

I, the mighty undead warlord, was too afraid of this obviously insane girl to go after her myself. I woke up shortly after she abandoned stealth altogether and I came face to face with her.

At least this one wasn't my (nonexistent in real life) sister.

A crescent moon the colour of blood rose in the day, and it did outshine the sun, parting cloud before it with its baleful glare. Strange creatures arose to walk the earth, and terrible deeds were done in the name of a faceless being, its nature dark beyond comprehension.

A group gathered in the courtyard of a mansion, drawn out of a meaningless social event. It was organised by the ringleader, as a pretext to bring the group together in this place. They began chanting, calling on the being to rise, calling it the Great One. Thankfully they were unsuccessful. They dispersed.

It's a good thing dreams don't predict the future, because the nature of these last three is such that if they did come true, the world would go to hell in a handbasket. My subconscious has me thoroughly creeped out. I'm quite glad this one didn't continue.

Sounds like you've been doing too much stressful work. Also, that dream would make for a good setting for a short story.

Just decided to play Kairo, and the environment and some of the general puzzles oddly reminded me of that one temple dream with the pedestals and the rocks, and other parts of the game remind me of another purgatory-like environment I often dream about. I mean, my mind wandered as I enjoyed the scenery as I was figuring out how to solve the puzzles. Quite nice, despite the odd music from time to time, though it does get soothing sometimes, great for meditating. Hell, I can just find a level I liked, and find a good spot to relax. One of the simple generators post-solution is pretty nifty, and relaxing.

I've dreamed up some pretty cool environments like this game had, and just as physics-defying (and some pretty clever puzzles; like some of the perspective-based ones I've come across here and there). Had more fun with my mind wandering and the thoughts that passed as I traveled and solved puzzles, and done some zany things as I wandered.

All the time. I remember about half, and only the really hilarious/terrifying/awesome ones get posted here.

Last night I was wandering through a shopping centre, past 10pm. Many of the light bulbs were blown, and there were oddly few shoppers. I was on the second story, passing by a bookshop, when a strange dog-like animal manifested itself (? It was just there) and began attacking people. Oddly enough, there was a squad of five or six men with R-5's and bullet proof vests standing right there, who opened fire. They managed to damage its jaw, but not enough; it killed them, somehow. I started slowly and smoothly backing away from it, but it started chasing me anyway. I spent close on five minutes running from it, before spinning and kicking it solidly in the muzzle. It caught onto my foot, but I dislodged it.

I had run into an area of the mall that was still under construction; there were beams across the ceiling at just above head height, and the walls were unpainted. I reached a corner of the corridor, which was walled with glass on the outside, before jumping and grabbing one of the beams. I swung myself up, just avoiding the beast snapping at my feet, before swinging myself forward and landing on its back, feet together. I snapped its spine and crushed its ribcage when I hit it.

A horrific, easily nine foot tall winged humanoid with horns and massive claws rounded the corner. I awoke.

Most of the time I forget soon after waking and am left with vague notions. But I write my dreams down on waking, just for laughs.

The only one this doesn't apply to happened ages ago, and I remember it quite clearly. There was a mossy, vine chocked pillar, and on it was a woman. There was a huge beast of titanic proportions, and the woman was going to be sacrificed to it. Oddly enough, I remember the pillar most of all. I saved the woman, of course, but still, that pillar seems to have had meaning that is the only bit of the dream I can't recall. Wish I could.

Even your dreams are poetic, Dwarfy. Mine usually devolve into random slapstick instead.
