Its Name Was Version 4.05
« on: August 29, 2012, 08:51:19 pm »

I discovered today that at some point in the past months, I deleted all copies of my work on the interrogation system redesign and merging elements of Deon's mod into the main game. It seems my only copy was kept on my desktop, of all places, and I'd never stored it as a branch on the SVN. I had spent a couple dozen hours of development time on this work, and it seems to be permanently gone.

I'm feeling pretty bummed by this, since it's a decent chunk of lost work, and the destruction of it was entirely my fault through carelessness. A part of me wants to invest the time into doing an awesome new release to make up for it, and another part of me wants to throw up my hands on it and say I don't have the time for it. In any case, I felt I had to share the bad news, and make this post to memorialize the lost update.

Is there any way we can convince you to choose the former? If not, it's cool.

*Sniff* It was beautiful.  Why must the good die so young?  :'(  :'(  :'(

One suggestion, should you chose to do the former: A hood as opposed to a blindfold would better match US treatment of terror suspects.  The hood also muffles sound, so is more debilitating for the subject (hence why the US uses hoods instead of blindfolds when transporting terror suspects).

Liberal Crime Squad: Not quite as bad as the official real-life government they oppose.

Suffice to say, I'd really like to see version 4.05 come to fruition, with the new interrogation system.

Possibly; I've been swayed multiple times in the past to work on the game from reading stories on the forums or elsewhere, watching videos, and hearing ideas for the game that got me excited. The biggest barrier to redoing everything is that I have a game near completion that needs to be revised and released soon, especially since it's been a year since I've released anything for profit.

Sweet baby monkies that looks complicated.

It was designed to be easier to understand than it looks in practice. It is my attempt to wed the features of the 2010-era interrogation system with the greater intuitiveness of the current system, and then have their child be better than either of them at both tasks.

That's a good idea.

Also, every time you have good ideas, I think of EuchreJack's Used Cars and Salvage. While I think you weren't the absolute first to suggest a car dealership, it was your thread that made me want to do it, and that feature is fixed in my mind as a thing that you brought about indirectly. Also, that's what I called the feature in the crazy ideas list before it made it into the game.

Can we pay you for LCS? Once again: If not, it's cool.

Sure! I don't have a fancy button, but you can send money over PayPal using my email address. The game is open source, so I'll never charge for it, but gift/donation/support-type payments are more than welcome. My email address is:

jonathansfox@gmail.com

If you give me money, you're welcome to mark it as a gift or as a purchase of a service, whichever feels most accurate to you; I don't mind paying PayPal fees.

Honestly, if you send me a gift, it'll be the first cent I've received for my work on the game, ever.

Wow! I went to sleep and woke up in the morning with more than $75 in the kindness of strangers. Thank you to you-know-who-you-are!

So yeah, that's pretty motivating. I'm thinking the world needs a bit more LCS.

For those who have offered their support, let me know if you'd like the details publicized.

So, I was looking at that one thread I posted a while ago where, Im sorry if I sound like Im gloating, Fox praised me and... Fuck I forget his name already, I have horrible memory. Anyhoo, it made me remember this. And with a new version released not to long ago, I was thinking that maybe I could bring this up again to maybe inspire Fox to try and make this again, because it looks like it would be a good implementation for LCS.

The interrogation system was complicated enough with the limited options...
But I'm sorry that has happened, we would obviously like a new release version but it is your choice after all.  :'(

PS. JBoy, I don't find it gloating.  Recently you have been posting a plethora of new and compelling ideas for LCS.

The current options are a simplified version; I'd actually cut features from the game to make it as easy to understand as it is. This was pretty controversial, and a lot of people wanted the features back. The new version (the one lost to the ether) was intended to bring them back without making the system even more arcane and obscure. It might look more complicated, but it would also be more responsive, so you could learn it more easily.
