War changes constantly. People however...

People never change.
Why is the very first line by a guy either complaining or announcing of gayness?
I have no idea, but it's bloody awesome.
Ah, Pompeii, you so silly.

Why can't we have more awesome graffiti like this?

Quote
Apollinaris, the doctor of the emperor Titus, defecated well here

A glowing recommendation if I ever saw one! :P

I'm incredibly tempted to put one of these into my sig. Some of them are just touching...
Quote
VII.2.48 (House of Caprasius Primus); 3061: I don’t want to sell my husband, not for all the gold in the world

Others are deep...
Quote
VIII.2 (in the basilica); 1824: Let everyone one in love come and see.  I want to break Venus’ ribs with clubs and cripple the goddess’ loins.  If she can strike through my soft chest, then why can’t I smash her head with a club?

And many simply make me smile from how laughably silly they are.
Quote
VIII.2 (in the basilica); 1816: Epaphra, you are bald!

I'm gonna have to read through 'em all again later and see if I can pick out a really good one.

Poor Epaphra.

Secundus on the other hand...

I wonder if there was this much sex and defecation on every Roman streetcorner.

Not that that's a bad thing, and they had moralist and poetic graffiti too so they're still cooler than the modern day.

The city block of the Arrii Pollii in the possession of Gnaeus Alleius Nigidius Maius is available to rent from July 1st.  There are shops on the first floor, upper stories, high-class rooms and a house.  A person interested in renting this property should contact Primus, the slave of Gnaeus Alleius Nigidius Maius.

Boy, answering classified ads must have been a chore back then.

They certainly take their water towers seriously, though.

Either Secundus was a common name, or that dude had some wild times.  I wonder if he knew Apelles.

Their patron goddess of marital sex was also the goddess of the Roman sewers :3

Just think on that.

The Romans were cool.
