Yes, that's what I said.

p=0.5d[d+1] is equal to the summation of p=d from i=1 to n.

p=0.5d[d+1] is the one for "How many pops do I need total to claim a tile d squares away, including the pops used to claim the tiles in between?", which is completely consistant with "p=d, but you need to claim all the intervening tiles as well."

Yay fancy math!

Anywho, just read the whole thread, and I must say this game looks nifty as all hell. My inner munchkin is wondering whether there is a situation where a sufficiently food-strapped nation might arrange to have their extra pop "stolen" by another nation, there to await return when the food supply is resecured. I don't know as this is any better than trading for food directly (well, I do, and the answer is "no,") but the zero upkeep for captive pops seems like it must have an exploit somewhere.

I do, in fact, have plans regarding that. Not giving them away just yet.

I was just waiting for your word Terra.

Oh, wow. I didn't notice this by now, but my claim on S-31 from turn 19 never got added to the map.
I think GM got confused when you said that bit. If you check it against the map, it looked like you got S and R mixed up.

I dont -really- care about the gem of fertility itself
Oh good. You worried me for a moment; I was planning on testing a method of guardian destruction on the Ent.

The Dragon flies by and spots a small door in the mountainside and remembers that those short beardy folk who produce gold often make these types of door. He knocks the door down with ease and fills the underground farm with dragonfire. Dissapointed at the lack of gold, the Dragon takes merely some mushrooms and dead dwarves back to his lair. The Kobolds steal the food and take it back to camp. They eat some of it and save the mushrooms for later.

The Hobbits continue their aggressive expansion, but it does not go unnoticed by the Dragon. The Dragon pillages a farm, the Kobolds burglarize the Dragon.

This is expansion for the sake of survival. Otherwise..We die and are forgotten.
Okay, somethings up with my food numbers. I had 78, I worked 12 food buildings. 12 buildings at 6 is 72. I then worked 6 shires at +1 apiece, So total food of 78, Safe. I use 70 to feed my 35 population. So I have a guaranteed +8. Which is recorded.
Then, I built and worked 5 additional food buildings, For an additional potential gain of +30, In chunks of 6. As those buildings were safe (mostly) I believe I am owed 24 additional food.
Not that I strictly -need- this additional food, But I am hitting my Ritual. Because it is the only way.

2 kobolds breed. [2/13]
7 kobolds fish. [9/13]
4 kobolds steal from the Dragon. [13/13]

All 5 armies make one final theft of whatever they can take, as long as it's not the Crown, before legging it back to kobold territory and disbanding to give me 5 more populations.

5 former kobold theives claim every water tile adjacent to S-31. [18/18]

With regards to the ongoing human expansion: GruGru Rek makes a simple offer. You may hire as many talented kobold mercenaries as you like to defend yourselves, so long as you pay them 1 food per turn, allow them an acceptable degree of pillaging and grand me territory to establish a kobold training base nearby.
