Elves got nerfed pretty hardcore after last game.

Did they? I didn't try to nerf Elves very much. I did nerf Preservation, but that nerf actually works in the Elves favor by giving them exclusive access to Unicorns.

Well, compared to where they were last game. Before they got:
Fishing
Nature Preserves
Free, early access to speed-boosting unicorns while building primary food structure
Terrain alteration

And now they get:
Fishing or Farming or one other 5pt research
Nature preserves
Access to unicorns after 15pts of research and 1 pop-turn per unicorn
No terrain alteration

I'm not saying they're bad or anything, just not crazy over the top awesome like they were last time.

If you read and understand all of the rules, then yes. Also I recommend reading a few pages from the start and end of the last game to get a feel of how this game runs.

In the end I think Grek was netting around 90+ food per turn without having to allocate any of his Population to food production.

Mathmatically speaking, each farm you replace with a nature preserve is worth an extra 0.5 pop. In the end, I had 44 nature preserves, and therefore a 22 man advantage over the other players. That's a pretty hefty advantage, but it should be balanced out by the fact that the elves can't turn plains into forests without artifact assistance anymore, and Woodcutting allows you to chop down nature preserves without having to assault them, as long as you can claim a space adjacent.

E: That raises an interesting question. Does a building stop working if the tile it's on gets switched to an invalid terrain type? I assume yes, but you never know.

Not only does it stop getting worked, the structure gets destroyed. Somewhere near the end of game 1 Corai used the Onyx to change the tile one of your Elf Villages was on into a mountain, which destroyed it. You can't have elves picking berries out of a desert.

Hello! I read all 20 pages of the first game I must say Grek was the master of the game. Anyways I will be Elves, Pink and be at J-6.

Do you mean you might not reply until Wednesday and Sunday, or do you mean you will be late replying only on those days? The former is not okay, the latter is fine.
