Party Cages?
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:45:51 am »

So recently i got back into Dwarf Fortress after playing a lot of dos games but after stealing some merchant goods and setting up a kind of military wing (Dwarven Daycare, Danger room,Jail and Barracks), i noticed a lot of people in my justice room.

Then they threw a party.
In the jail.

So know im trying to figure out why random, non military dwarves are dancing about in my punishment room. Did i set something up wrong or is it just a bug?

EDIT: Oh god, someone just had a baby in there.

You maybe have statues in the jail to keep prisoners sane?  You might have set it as a statue garden to get even more happy thoughts from tastefully arranged?

As far as im aware partys can only be orgainised at tables in meeting halls and statues in statue gardens

Party Cage!

Edit: Brainwave: I think that the jail has a higher value of the dining hall?

Heh you learn something new every day in DF.  If you dont have any zones declared off the jail then im not certain what the issue is.  I didnt think that just flagging cages/restraints for justice made them partyable.

EDIT:  The value exceeding meeting hall could be an issue, cant see why it would be, but its an idea anyway.

use (t) -> enter to check the value of the cage.
(R) checks the room value - although I'm not sure about jails, I never really bother with justice.

What kind of party is this? Are the prisoners dancing in their cages, perhaps? If so, it's time to chain the cages to the ceiling and bring in the rock band.

But you never see a movie where a terrible coal plant accident causes a horrible devastation, do you? Nope, everyone seems to think that nuclear plants get their energy by smacking live atomic warheads all day or something.

Add multicolored gem windows with burning lignite behind it for disco lights.
Get your biggest, strongest and socially most inept dwarves in black robes to be the bouncers.
Add a toilet where a shady dwarf passes on vials of syndrome inducing FB liquids.
Oh the possibilities are endless...

Never seen a cage party before.... A past fort had a kid throw a party for a full 2 years around a pig tail fiber rope I had accidentally put in someone's room.

That party was in the cramped bedrooms, and resulted in a few kids and infants suffocating.

I always have parties at my jail room. Its been common thing for me for a long time playing DF. I put chains (well restraints) down, some cages also and set a restraint for justice since for some reason the cages never let me. And dwarves go and admire the cage and then throw parties at them heh.

I like to build zoos, so I get cage parties all the time (as intended). Of course, I use one of the cages to create a room, which I assumed was necessary for these parties to happen. did you create rooms around your prison cages?

The King `Elvis“ Prėslī has organized a party at gold Cage.

The Captain threw a party at the fortress jail
Some minotaurs in cages there began to wail
The band was jumpin' and the place began to swing
You should've heard those gabbro guitars sing

Let's rock
Everybody, let's rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was playin' instruments of rock

Urist Idenonshen said to Bim Mazetree
"You're the very dwarfiest I ever did see
I'll surely throw a tantrum if you ever leave me
Here's some spores--oops! Is that a baby?"

Let's rock
Everybody, let's rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancin' in a prison of rock
