Help! Insane Vampires completely useless..
« on: August 26, 2012, 02:53:52 am »

Tl;dr How do I get rid of useless insane vampires?

I usually put my vampires in little cubicles so they can live a life of solitude away from the other dwarrow, so as to allow them to concentrate on their book keeping or managerial duties; but  it seems that Urist McVampire has gone insane due to lack of clothes and I stupidly opened the cubicle, thinking he'd just go outside and get stepped on by a goblin siege but instead he sits comfortably or runs amock the inside of the fort .. anyway so I have two of these guys and all they do is lower my fps, how do I get rid of em?

Insane immortal and friendly the worst combination possible.

1. Well of unlife
2. Caverns
3. Magma sea minecart voyage (bonus points if they have to skip across to a safe island to live there for eternity)

Probably the easiest way to get rid of them - though possibly not the safest - would be a controlled cave-in. If you can get them into a walled-in area, just drop floor tiles on them - a direct hit means dead vampire. Be sure to engrave slabs for them later, though.

Does anyone know if vamp ghosts (a) exist and (b) drain blood from victims?

I don't really see a solution in those suggestions bro :/
They're insane, no burrows no military assignments no Killing... they quite literally sit in the corner rolling their feces into little balls,
I doubt I could get them to somehow take a voyage into the magma sea or even into the caverns.

Edit; didn't see second reply, Yea a cave in would work ;/ I'd have to get them to sit in one place for long enough though... Good Idea!

You cage them first.

Like... with a cage trap?.. and unconsciousness?
That seems awfully complicated.. but dwarfy.

Today I learned I can Convict People for crimes they haven't done, Cold cases from years ago.

Technically, cave in dust could make it unconcious. Just build an array of cage traps beforhand, and drop a single tile. Then drop a tile on the caged vamp.

EDIT: And since you can convict them, if they get jail time, even easier. Though if you keep a single vamp alive, your fort can live on for all eternity - it is preferred to keep it alive in a cage so that ghosts can't kill it.

...But then I'd never lose.... :(
If I drop it 10-20 floors will it implode?
Or should I just stick with a magma execution?..

Just wondering here, will he ever feed (drink blood) whilst insane?

Dropping it 10-20 floors will only hurt it, 30+ for insta-gib

Also vampires to prevent the fort from ever crumbling is tricky unless you wall him up in such a way as to keep him happy.  issuing a military uniform so that his 'clothing' never rots is a good way to work round this.  The issue being that if he beserks he no longer counts as your civ.  Im unsure if melancholy causes a similar issue (but this is why werebeasts dont make your fort eternal in the same way...when they transform they stop counting until they shift back)

Yea I don't really want to have an eternal fort, sounds like a bad idea to me.. I tried it once, abandoned.

Drink? No I have a melancholy'd vamp and an insane one.. and past experience dictates ; they do _nothing_

They can probably.. but I'd have to get them down there.. and even then.. I think the host of forgotten beasts which I usually keep on a diet of goblin and zombie will probably identify him as a new delicious treat.

you can use cage traps and levers to get him there, also you may want to use the blood of the vampire to vampirize the whole fortress
