Well, I'm blatantly advertising the Minecraft server where I've been playing for the last year or so. We're looking for mature players. With mature I mean we prefer adults who respect other players' property and can talk with full sentences instead of lolspeak. In short, we want nice people who can behave. We have an age limit, which is around 18. Most of the players are aged 20-35, the oldest being 60+ years old. As the official MC forums are filled with pre-teens I'm hoping we could find some older folks from here.

The server is located in the UK and the majority of players are European, but we have a few players from US too. The server is running a few mods, including BuildCraft, IndustrialCraft, Mo' Creatures and WeaponMod. That also means we're still running v1.2.5. Installing the mods can be a bit of a hassle, but we'll give technical assistance. Also we sometimes try out new mods and seeds on weekends.

how many players are in the server usually, i prefer playing in servers with <20 players because of players spamming in chat and lag and other stuff

because 99% of kids in internet start to rage,troll badly,grief, etc etc... and people dont bother banning every kid that starts acting like an idiot

You realize that a very large percent of people under the age of 18 are not under the age of 12, right?

Personally, the Age cap should at least be 15, or somewhere reasonably AFTER puberty.

When you put any age cap on a server, you keep out some trolls, but you also keep out any good player who was under that limit.

Well, the age limit was a democratic decision, based on experiences of all the invited players when the server was founded. That was the general consensus at the time. The age limit is *around* 18, so younger people might be able get in if their application is good enough, or if someone in the server vouches for them.

Let me clarify, I'm not the server admin, just one of the players there.

Avoiding this server simply on the premise that I was 17 at one time, and denied access to fun things.

Think about what you're doing though, really.  You're not protecting your server from drama/griefers/etc.  You're telling young people to go play with the trolls.  Don't be a dick, don't condemn them to putting up with trolls based on your arbitrary rules.

Yeah, the whole age limit thing rubs me the wrong way. It's basically a slap in the face to any REASONABLE sixteen-year-old on the Internet. And believe me, they do exist. I used to be one, in my humble opinion.

Same here, speaking as a very reasonable if somewhat naive 16 year old who already considers whitelists and the ignore button found on forums to be a little bit jerkish.

I am not going to join that server just because of the age limit.The attitude ...seems..dick-ish.Hell i've been playing singleplayer minecraft because there are no good servers.Discriminating because of age is a really stupid and rude thing to do.

Well there's simple no way to do it, just have to trust the people and hope for the best. We've seen someone trying that and got caught.

Maybe an age check similar to what the first Leisure Suit Larry had? Or, actually check if they know what kind of check the game used. And old geezer would know it, and probably would even remember the password asked in the game too. The youngsters of course would just google it.
