Also, where in this contract does my survivability come in? Because I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I LIKE having my limbs where they should be.

As overseer for this operation I will do my utmost to make sure you stay as survivable as possible. We're all in this together.

Oooh, dorf me! Kamin, male preferred (but mostly irrelevant) woodcutter who hopefully becomes amazing with an axe and starts cutting creatures down instead of trees :P. Job title: The Cuttist.

I like cutting shit in real life, so I think it fits me well. Growing up isolated on a farm surrounded by woodlands helps  :D

Edit: And, being stupid, I forgot an embark... I like swamps. No lack of wood there (and hopefully decent metals).

What's your vote for the embark location, if I may ask?

EDIT: Now The Cerulean Swamp and the Tundra of Disembowelment are tied. Once we get our final member (who hopefully is willing to be a farmer) hopefully we'll have a vote decision.

Looks like the farmer is still available. I'll take it. Female if possible named AJ. Name also works if male. No feelings toward location, I am sure any of them will be entertaining.

An impasse, then. I'll flip a coin on our two tied ones and we'll see what comes of it.

After the gathered seven deliberated on where to go a tie breaker was made by the flipping of an electrum coin. Heads would be The Cerulean Swamp, Tails would be The Tundra of Disemboweling. In the end, the coin had landed on heads. And so it was decided, the group of young explorers would settle in the freezing marshlands of The Cerulean Swamp.

The game begins now guys, I'll be posting screenshots soon once I get everything set up and we make some headway. Probably the first season to get us wet before we fully dive in.

Explorer's Journal - 1st of Granite, 251

And so it is we've arrived at our destination. If you were ever told that the surroundings were swamplands you wouldn't know it. Indeed most of the land is covered in a thick layer of crunchy snow, our boots leaving footprints at every step. Our single military dwarf, Kate, slowly surveys the immediate environs. This will certainly not be an easy task for all of us, with the weight of our guild's reputation riding on our shoulders.

We had not bothered to pack picks nor axes, our resident warsmith Deroft having the clever idea of bringing the ores themselves and smelting them in a furnace, allowing us to skirt around the limitations of our provisional funding. The team quickly set to work to foraging around while AJ provided Deroth with the needed charcoal from the several logs we had brought along for the trip. A snow storm had quickly set in as we began our quick work on digging ourselves a home away from the cold weather.

It had been pretty unanimous from the get go that I be our outpost's expedition leader. Though I was unsure of myself I elected to do my best not to let my fellow dwarves down. Our lives were in my hands.

Once we had the few copper ores we had brought along smelted Daroft quickly began working on making the tools needed for our small band of explorers to gather necessary provisions. Our resident "cuttist" Kamin started making quick work the local tree life, a grin of absolute glee adorning his bearded face.

With the picks finally forged, Ethan741 and Mageziya quickly began their work on digging out our home away from the frigid swamplands and tundra above. Our first priority was to get AJ's underground farm plot  up and running before anything else, with stockpiles soon to follow.

Explorer's Journal - 6th Slate, 251

With our farm plot finalized AJ quickly went to work on sewing seeds for our farm provisions. Dimple cups were in season and we intended to capitalize on them.

With their newly forged mining tools Mageziya and Ethan741 continued their work, digging out our living area along with crafting rooms and adjacent stockpiles to put the finished goods into.

Explorer's Journal - 18th of Slate, 251

With the snow melting and the uncertainty of the depth and stability of the frozen river I have instructed our crew to move all of our present supplies to a temporary stockpile on solid ground until the proper facilities have been excavated.

Explorer's Journal - 21st of Felsite, 251

With the coming of spring the crew and I are thankful to discover that the climate is not too cold as to completely prevent fresh water from being available. The northern pools of our site have melted and provide us with fresh water, unfortunately, no fish have been found. It is hoped that if and when the central river melts that fresh fish will be available to catch for provisions.

-------
And with that the first season has ended. I am still playing though, so expect some more content in a little while. This is my testing the waters post, so hopefully I should finish out the rest of the year pretty soon.

I request dwarfing as Fish Pony, Militia Commander, or failing that, a speardwarf.

Also, if you've got wooden furniture in the dining hall, you have some big issues anyways.
This is Dwarf Fortress, not the Fluffy Wambler Express.

I've already given Militia to Kate but she'll gladly have you in her squad.

SO MANY TREES FOR CUTTING!  :D I am excited. My Dwarf is a presently indispensable member of Fencedboot. This looks like it'll be a great embark with some pretty good stories. I guess the only bummer is that it's in a calm environment, which means we'll have a little less action than in an evil biome  :P

Can we see the Dwarves' profiles? It could be edited into the OP for ease of access, should you decide to show us our "us-es".
