Also, yes to spikes, electricity and add the jet thruster for moving around.

I just hope we won't see any.. err.. NSFW creatures.
One of the several reasons I quit playing spore myself.

One major reason tough is the whole EA/DR. PEPPER exclusives thing which was the last drop for me.
By the way, that was someyears ago.. did they change stuff while I as away from Spore?
