So, I had all my poultry pastured, chicks and adults separated. I built a lever and ALL of them started blinking with some symbol and systematically killed every dwarf I had. Can someone please tell me what happened?

But Why did they do that? I pastured them all and never bothered them again. Then next thing I know blood is everywhere. It seems at first they were killing each other then once all the chicks were gead they went for my dwarves. Is this a bug or is there some way to avoid what happened?

I *think* the pasture was too small. The got angry. They decided their anger would be assuaged by sweet dwarven flesh.


The lever was probably unconected, unless you have modded your levers to disperse airborne avian rabies or something.

Thanks for the relevant answer Wrex. I'm confused though because no new animals were born 30 min. prior to the great chicken attack of 2012. No hens were laying and all eggs were to be collected. I'm afraid to start a new game if this will happen again, but I can not find any other instance where there was a mass revolt of livestock against dwarves.

This reeks of evil interactions playing havoc with your fort. Any necromancer towers or evil biomes in your fort?

Not that I know of but that would make this happen? I can't find any other people with this problem

Well it would suggest a zombie spiral or some sort of eerie glowing cloud befalling upon your chickens. There is also the possibility of a loyalty cascade (unlikely) or the chickens being from an enemy civ (very unlikely).

I agree with LW.  Sounds like a zombie spiral to me.  OP mentions they were flashing to another symbol -- what symbol was that, xeluc?

Possibilities:
A) OP is using mod.
B) Poultry hit with husk cloud.

Well I am using the Phoebus tileset they flashed some grey tinh it almost looked like a skull with bones or something idk I couldn't figure out what it was. All my dwarves booked it out into the wilderness and the poultry just followed them all. I didn't notice any clouds. the lever was in the room the chickens were in so I saw it happen right after. Not using mods.

Were there dead chickens nearby (butcher's shop etc.)?
