What is the most dangerous biome in terms of wildlife?
« on: August 22, 2012, 08:25:18 pm »

Title says most of it, I preferably want a neutral surroundings so the wildlife is similar to reall wildlife, I don't particularly want to play with unicorns or zombies running around. I though that and untamed wilds temperate coniferous forest would be dangerous, expecting bears of all sorts and other monsters. So far (5 years in) all I've got is giant versions of non threatening animals such as crows and hamsters. So what is the most dangerous biome in terms of wildlife?.

I reccomend letting him go nuts, though.  If he goes berserk, free target practice for your military!  If he doesn't, raving naked bedridden dwarf!

Caverns, if that counts.

Otherwise, I would say anywhere can be dangerous.

Terrifying areas are Evil + Savage.  Scary stuff!

Tropical areas have big wildlife, and big wildlife with hooves.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I find that after the newest version came out in march I rarely see giant animals anymore, but am swarmed by animalmen. How is dwarf supposed to make a giant tiger army?

...You know, I haven't seen a single animal person on my map yet. They're in the stockpile options so I didn't mod them out, but I just haven't seen any.

btw, I meant large animals, not the giant variants. Giraffes, rhinos, elephants. Stuff like that. Large predators come singly, have low populations, and can be taken out by focused fire or a single cage trap, but things in herds are a total pain to deal with.

Oh wait, crocodiles and alligators, I forgot those. They're predatory, appear in small groups, don't do anything but bite and latch and shake, and they can kill indirectly by making dwarves fall in the water.

There is a reason we don't murder elves right off the bat...

I also don't see any large animals. No more elephants, hippos, rhinos, giraffe etc. Always fucking animal men. Or giant monkeys who steal my shit. Nothing I can tame into war animals though.

Terrifying glacier. Undead creatures show up and are instantly hostile to dwarves, which because glaciers are totally flat they can see from the very instant they show up. Most of my terrifying glacier forts don't last more then a minute or so.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
