Omerta - City of Gangsters

Homepage

I figured this is germane to some peoples' interests around here.

Take Tropico 3/4, and make it a game about a mob family during Prohibition, instead of playing the kooky El Presidente. From the looks of it, it's built straight from the same Engine as Tropico. Published by Kalypso, being made by Haemimont.

Not a ton to say about it right now. Combat will be turn based and looks very different than what you'd expect to find in a Sim game. The city building/management portion of it all takes place in real time.

You'll recruit and equip a crew for your dastardly deeds, go to war with other mob families, make deals with them to sell or deliver booze, pimp out your Gangster Headquarters and more, I'm sure. The official feature list:

Quote
Features:

Historically accurate representation of Atlantic City and its landmarks
Strategic gameplay allows city overview, planning, expansion and gathering of intel
Turn-based tactical combat with a cover system and stealth action
15 unique player controlled characters each with unique personalities and backgrounds
A RPG system for development of player characters and managing their equipment
Competitive and cooperative multiplayer mode with persistent gangs
15+ hours of gameplay in a single play-through
20 unique maps visualizing the various districts of Atlantic City

I know I've been pining for a mob/gangster experience in this format, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Came here to post this, glad I didn't have to. :)

Looks like an ever so slightly more modern version of Gangsters by Hothouse. Which was awesome, but with the added sprinkles of updated graphics and turn based combat my old school gamer sense is definitely tingeling.

I like that your crew will be actual characters with persistent stats and manageable gear, versus nameless mooks that make up most mob game units.

Oh jah.... this game has my attention.  I wish Gangsters 2 had a custom game mode similar to Gangsters...

Interested!

The original Gangsters is one of those games that just doesn't play well at all with modern computers.

I must jump on the bandwagon and throw my "I hope this is like Gangsters:Organized Crime" statement with the lot.

Despite its flaws, Gangsters is one of my favorite games. The potential is just amazing. I actually went on to program a simple php/mysql version of it (minus the city view/working week play- just a turn based game with simulated working week stuff) to play with friends... Well... I started programming it and have yet to finish:-)
But that said this has gotten my pants all tight.

One reservation is that it is a Kalypso game... since I just recently bought a pack of em from steam sales.
The over-emphasis on the player avatar(for one reason or another) is really a pain.  But, thank Jah that not all of them are centric to the player avatar... so there is hope yet.

Personally, I wouldn't mind having my boss walking around a bit.  My biggest complaint about the original Gangsters was with how they dealt with the player's avatar (you were an office, which meant game over if that office was destroyed, and you could NEVER move the office, no matter how many FBI agents knew about it).

EDIT: Considering the fact the game is near release, I'll keep my "feature wish list" to myself.  No use complaining that waffles aren't pancakes and all.
