That's the thing, I sort of "came back" after a while and I have no idea how to use the minecarts or what to do with them.

Minecarts themselves aren't too complicated once you've grasped the way that track tiles are carved and how they connect, but setting up hauling routes and connecting them to stockpiles and making the carts take the correct items takes a lot of keystrokes. It's like the military in a way -- lots of screens to go through and lots of things to tweak, and eventually you get to a point where it's hard to explain all the steps because they're handled by a sort of mental muscle memory and not in your conscious mind any more. Start with a simple one-level guided back-and-forth route between two industries that would normally see a lot of dwarves shuttling back and forth, and once that's functioning try and make it a push / ride route with the appropriate safety measures.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
