Good to see people are still interested in this and at least someone other than myself is posting and thinking about how things are going.
Here's a little recap on what we have as applications so far, and some questions/thoughts I have for each group.
-Sheaylicai(Taricus)
-Mamalean Dragons,
-Subtropical Broadleaf Forest Biome
-Survivalists
-Strength: Farming, Metalworking, Cunning
-Weakness: Cold, Arrogance, Greed
My Thoughts: The Sheaylicai seem like a pretty standard tribal type game setup. There's nothing to horribly huge or interesting in their landscape, no mention of magic beyond the firebreathing, so there is plenty of room to grow but little to go on right now. Also, since the world is described as tropical, most of the time the cold weakness won't come into play, however, when they begin to mine and climb the nearby mountains they will experience cooler temperatures, and it should be interesting to write out. Let alone what happens when the dragons begin to travel.
-Karms(Lillipad)
-Demonic Humanoids
-Squirrel infested Permafrost Crags with demonic ruins
-Dominant Isolationists
-Strength: Combat, Hunting, Fishing, Basic Magic, Beast Knowledge(local)
-Weakness: Religion, Farming, Diplomacy, Squirrels
My Thoughts: Much better than random blue-eyed humans. The demonic nature of the race and the surroundings will lead to some great storytelling I think. And the fact that animals(demonic or not) will provide a strong foundation for this group as it grows and survives based on the creatures around them. The ice-age like world with the demonic summoning ruins gives plenty of backstory hooks to write. What happened to the world to make it this way? Was it always like this? Who was summoning the demons? How do frozen plants survive? What happens if things begin to thaw?
-Zyrii(Nuke9.13)
-Parasidic Shapeshifting Jokesters
-World as in Hosts.
-Happy Trolling Travelers
-Strength: Partying, Weaving, Mathematics, Economics
-Weakness: Physical Labour(Farming, Hunting, Construction)
My Thoughts: The Jesters here have potential, but I am worried that some things still arn't fleshed out. For this to work, you need to either get an agreement with another race to let your species live within them, that will define your world and hosts, or make up a new set of hosts and world to be a part of. I think for this the jesters will have a hard time to start, as most of the initial goals will need to be about food gathering and getting shelters built and so on. If they can manage to survive(they should, since we are writing stories in this game and can push things to the most interesting) they should do much better when the tribes begin to interact and evolve the more advanced topics like trading, currency, schooling etc. I'm also a bit concerned about writing this myself. I'm not the best at writing comedy, and being funny with text can be extremely difficult at times. Nuke is still welcome to try, but I expect it will be a hard road.
-Sennat(Racnor)
-Fox-headed Jellyfish
-Temperate Floodplain
-Isolated Survivalists
-Strength: Crafting, Farming, Basic Construction Magic
-Weakness: Combat, Medicine, Nutrition Requirement
My Thoughts: I find myself a bit confused on what the race is trying to go for here, are you fox-like or jellyfish like. Seems a bit more leaning towards the latter, and I wonder what the fox bit is about at all. Other than that, the world seems pretty mundane for how crazy the race is. My questions would be how do the Ledreo survive, do they live in the water? Or perhaps the world has less gravity than earth norm. Or a combination of the two with the children living in water until they mature. The strengths and weaknesses seem quite broad, but give some interesting choices to write about. The construction magic could be anything from growing buildings to sculpting earth. The magic part might want to be more specific before we start. While making medicine a weakness will severely damage your living conditions to start until you can find and trade with other tribes who might be able to heal better.
-Oolahtorh(Armok)
-Eldrich Abominations
-Underwater chasm
-Highly Devoped Slavers?(Still haven't gotten around to reading the 3 pages or whatever of pre-written stuff here)
-Strength: Servitors, Adventurous, Creativity
-Weakness: Social Anarchy? Royal Dependancy, Non-Magical
My thoughts: Well, we need to know for sure if Armok wants to play. I think it might be better for him still to make something else up instead of using someone else's well written and developed species, because then Armok can write them as he likes instead of worrying about what might have been written before. Still, that said, from the basics I get an interesting underwater life form with slavery skills, and there is plenty that can be written there. The anarchy part might be more difficult however, and I'm curious how the slavery is supposed to work, if they have no magic of their own. From what I gather the royals have a type of biological powers, but from what I gather you don't have any royals, so I'm back to being a bit confused.
-Tregaris(Kilakan)
-Sentient Plantfolk
-Canyon Rainforest
-Survial Escapists
-Strength: Diverse Growth, Nature Knowledge, Youth Stasis, Photosynthesis, Numerous Offspring
-Weakness: Single Reproduction, Birth Defects, Photosynthesis
My Thoughts: Tree folk can be quite interesting. You have to balance the fact that you 'eat' light, water, and minerals, with the fact that if you stand around doing so like typical plants, you leave yourself open to predators and other dangers. Let alone dealing with cloudy days and basically shutting down at night. The world is simple, but interesting enough to write for. You have a jungle biome with lots of room to devolope life and an unknown outside world to reference. And if you can't think of anything, you can easilly have something strange fall into the canyon for the race to find.
-Usola(micelus)
-Marsupial Crows
-Giant Tree Layered Forest
-Curious Agriculturalists
-Strength: Farming, Domestic Animal, Diplomacy
-Weakness: Metalworking, Combat, Cowardace
My Thoughts: I like the Cici here. Bird people living in giant trees with a dark unknown below, can lead to some interesting storylines. The winged snakes, and other aboreal animal types are interesting as well. I worry about about saying you start with domesticated vines and animals, but I suppose i can let that slide it will just need to be a very basic domestication, more of a living with than actually owning livestock and fields type thing. That way you can write how you expand from that, and so on.
-Blood Tribe(Ukrainian Ranger)
-Telepathic Sentient Carrots
-Diverse Teleporting Island
-Aggressive Mind Controlers
-Strength: ?
-Weakness: ?
My Thoughts: There is potential here. I like the idea of giant mind-controling carrots creating a civilization around that, but we need more info. You didn't put in your Strength and Weaknesses, and those can help to flesh things out a bit more. The world idea is a fun one as well, as it should lead to no end of interesting things we can add to the story if needed.
Reserve
I was just wondering if I have a species that has two sub-species, that have symbiotic relationship in order to survive and thrive as a civilization.
A symbiotic race is perfectly fine, just have to make sure and write it all out to operate like any other group and we should be good.
We have 8 so far, and a few others still working on sheets. I we should probably put a deadline for more tribes at this weekend. Say by Sunday night 11pm EST. Then we can try and get things started on monday(though I expect a couple days of voting on which tribes to use).
