Well, since this thread somehow hasn't been locked yet, I may aswell post this... Bear in mind, I'm not religious, myself. I guess I'm kinda agnostic. I'm pretty sure there's
something, but other than that I've no idea. It just rubs me up the wrong way when anyone claims to "know" anything definitely and tells other people they are "wrong".
This was in High School.
(An Australian school, actually, which I guess must seem incredibly liberal compared to an American one. In my school, we had a rather small, token Religious Education class, which required a parent's written consent for students to attend, and a large science department spanning several classrooms and a no-doubt huge chunk of the school's budget. It was mandatory, too.)So my class is sitting on a hill, waiting for a teacher or something. I can't remember what started it, but we had a show of hands as to who believed in god. I was one of only two people who raised their hand, and a short while later a guy started raving on about how stupid religion was/Christians were.
I said
(remember I was the incredibly quiet kid, I didn't usually voice an opinion about anything but I felt like someone had to make a counter-argument),
"How can you be so sure God isn't real?"
"Because evolution has been proven."
"How do you know some form of god didn't cause evolution?"
"Because it started from the Big Bang!"
"...But how do you know some kinda god didn't
cause the big bang?"
"
Because there is no such ****ing thing as god!"
...I shut up, then.
I was already unpopular enough.
