Well it's either that or not-so-subtly throwing insults in a "fun" thread. Personally I find arguing better entertainment than mocking bad arguments I've seen elsewhere on the internet.

...ironically, I think they weren't debating the silliness...so much as disputing it.

Considered responding to the responses, but I think people are kind of missing the point. A silly argument is still a silly argument even if it's arguing something that makes sense.

For example: "It's better to have ice cream than to have your face chewed off by a lion, because it's unhealthy for lions to eat ice cream."

That's a silly, flawed, nonsensical argument. The fact that most of us would probably agree that it's better to have ice cream than have our face chewed off doesn't make that argument make any sense. The thinking involved in most of the arguments I gave is actually pretty bad, but since I gave arguments favoring both sides of a basically binary proposition, it's inevitable that people will see them and see the obvious: there are arguments being listed that support something that they agree with.

When somebody says "here's a really STUPID argument: it's better to have ice cream than to have your face chewed off...because of X" it takes a certain amount of presence of mind to look at think and think "Oh, yes. X is in fact pretty dumb." ...despite the fact that you agree with the premise.
