 ??? I'm confuzzled on the rules of the map. Do players just make a random map and join in or do you have one already for them?

You are never lost as long as you have a trusty and reliable Compass. Mine kept pointing North, so I just removed the red Needle! Problem solved!

Then I proceeded to pick up the rest of the bunnies, the masterfully crafted bronze statue, and its head. The head will be his trophy... But I need money.

As I understand it, we all start forts.
One gets voted on and becomes the Official map.
Everybody plays that map for one year.
We all vote as to whos save we use.
We all play that save for one year.
Etc.

I'm in mid summer, thieves have started showing up.
There's a rudementry story in place that I'll be fleshing out.
Metal industry and glass industry have literally just started. Took forever, but it's one hell of a solid base for future expansion at this point.

fortress report,

overseer name: Ziga

fortress name: Mirroredprophet

1st granite: just embarked, there is literally no one but us and the cattle, might be an uneventfull year...well exept all that gold just hanging off the rock face



21st slate: OH ARMOK HAVE MARCY! EVERYONE'S DEAD! theres bodies blood and maisma EVERYWHERE there is NOTHING left and...im just kidding, the guys are fine, just digging down and found microcline, also some migrants

4th malachite: oh i guess i forgot to discribe what it looks like out here, well its an almost entirely flat plane with a hill (that we're building the fort in) at the most northern part of the land we've clamed, and i have an idea on building an archer tower inside the upper part of it, oh and one more thing, ive ordered the first of the worker's quarters to be dug out

14th limestone: there are a bunch of hamster men on the outskirts of the fort, im keeping an eye on them...



22nd sandstone: some more migrants, only 3 this time, oh and im almost done with the well

10th timber: now this is...odd, there's a crown right where the temporary jeweler's shop used to be (you could probly guess what i was doing) and i have not even made a crafts dwarf shop yet, just...odd



13th timber: the traders have come! which means my regan is almost over, i wonder if my fort will be the one to continue in this great contest of colonization that the mountain home has created, well...i almost have a working well so i guess i have a chance...anyway i order some leather some metal bars and a few dogs from the outpost liaison

18th obsidian: the well is finally compleated!...and its going to be spring soon oh armok the SUSPENCE

1st granite: well, looks like spring has arrived! and my ownership of this outpost (weather i win or not) is not mine anymore. well ill just wrap a few things up in this letter before i go...oh you thought i would be staying? yeah, right like i would put my life in another overseer's hands (have you SEEN the things some of them do?), yeah riiiiiiiiiiight, anyway on to the details, we have a working (as far as i know) well, a windmill...you won't have trouble finding it, i ordered it to be made of microline,(eventhough i like the simplicity of plump helmets id rather eat somthing closer to bread) the in-mountain archer tower "might" need a bit of rethinking (or replacement, as in, put it a bit higher) but overall it's done, the hospital will be where the well is, and the only lever in the fort controls the floodgate in the well.

anyway, i hope my outpost is the victor, wouldent want that awesome name the so called "expedition leader" came up with go to waste

From the looks of it, that's three of us done, including myself.  I see I was NOT the only one to delve for a volcano, but I must say you guys got luckier than I did...  Nobody went into a strange mood at SwordArmor.  (Always seemed to get low migrant waves.)

Rather surprised to see those ambushers come so soon to be honest.  I usually wind up getting the first thieves at about winter myself.

Looking forward to a few more journal entries from you wonderful overseers!

I was surprised to see the goblins and kobolds so soon too. I'm assuming the third goblin, the one that got chunked, was a thief because there was a sack in the same general area as some of the pieces.

It was pretty funny, invisible, got the notice, look and there's blood and goblin strewn all over the place.

I think it's probably because once the metal crafting was underway (I really did suddenly realize the trade caravan was coming, that's a very honest log) I went straight for gold and started cranking stuff out. The fortress worth went up like a rocket once gold goblets and statues and such came into play.
My quarters are awfully lavish too, I think the goblins can sense total fortress wealth or something.

Couldn't figure out how to attach a note to levers. Have fun with that.

Aha! A non-aquifered volcano with fresh water and trees! This should work well. If only I actually knew how to use magma. There is no flux stone, which is bad.

The dwarves stop the wagon and begin digging out a meeting hall and trading post area, as well as stockpile rooms. Farming might take a bit to set up. They's no dirt. Starvation is a possibility. A Giant Wolverine has killed one of the war dgos, and two of the pack animals have been slaughtered. I forgot to bring a breeding pair. A couple migrant waves came, we are up to 16 dwarves. Make that 15, the axedwarf sent to kill that wolverine is no longer with us. Winter is here, and there is no water. A well is being set up, but it won't be active until the water unfreezes. There is probably a way to speed this up with the magma, but I don't know how. The caravan brought enough booze for the winter, providing a huge migrant wave doesn't pop up. We bought some food from them too.
   Well rats, they found the dead axedwarf. Now everyone is unhappy. They'll get over it. Or I will kill them. >=) muahahahahahahhahahahahahahhehheheheehehehehehehohohohohohohohohohhumhumhumhumhumhumhum. Wow this place is kinda boring besides that there dumb wolverine. Twitch.
   The liason wants maces, headwear, backpacks, and tanned hides. We requested bars of various metals.
   A kobold thief showed up late in Obsidion. It is probably the first of many. Indeed, here is another, minutes later. A farmer was killed by the wolverines. So 14 dwarves left. The wood chop choppers would not chop wood. Oh how I wish they would.

Spring has arrived! I nearly missed the announcement.

14 dwarves are living, they are working on putting stone in the stone stockpile and setting up farms down by the brook. Created wealth: 8696

I know this is an inadequate summarry, it is because so little happened. And I'm too busy to put up pictures this time. But i'll put up the save if it wins, which it probably wont :P The fortress is finally laid out in its simplest, and I've planned out the bedrooms, but digging has not started.

Being absolutely honest, I'd say bobnova's fortress making skills are legendary, given his wicked good stocks and interesting architecture.  His fort kinda gets the third vote that'll win it for him.  I'm simply going to presume my fortress lost due to a pretty tame surrounding and whatnot...  All's fine by me...  just another fort I'll get to continue on my own time.  Bobnova, your efforts here for the first year are masterwork.
