I like that setup there kibstable. I was trying to figure out what to do about the entrance. It looks suspiciously like your fort is going to be the fort of the week here, not that I'm in charge.

Why, because it's the only one?

Well, I had hoped that you'd choose my version of the fort for better reasons than just because its the only one.
I'm sure if another showed up now it'd get fair consideration.  All you have to do is survive for a year, I mean as far as progressing the fort is concerned, my year was almost going backwards, I didn't dig deeper, I didn't really expand the military, the dining room has no more tables and chairs, there are no more bedrooms (except the mayors unfinished rooms, which I would change now anyway)
I did tidy up the bodies at the front door and the new ones from 2 sieges, but that's hardly progress.

So I'm assuming Kibstable's fort is going to be the one for this week, yes? Maybe we should look into making the time frame a bit longer for future fortress years.

Even though it's the only fort this week I still think you've done a good job of improving the entrance and breaking through the sieges without too many casualties :P

Nah I like the new entrance and you did a far better job of breaking the siege than I did.
I hatched an assassination plan for the necromancer that ended up getting most of the military killed and kicking off a tantrum spiral. Not ideal :D

I've not yet started playing my year, and I'm probably not going to find time until tomorrow night.  I hadn't realised how much more time was required to play and make a record of what happened.
I kept my notpad app open while I played, and simply added a date followed by anything remotely interesting, which I found took my focus away from long term plans.
Next week I might write a short list of things I might like to achieve before I start.  For this week I will simply try to finish a fort on time.
Good luck to those of you who are up and running with the fort as I left it, sorry about all the blood smears. I expect there will be more ;)

I'm done:

The autobiography of Di Adilerib the self-proclaimed messiah of Paintmuscle.

My name is Di. The fabric of fate was arranged in such a way that it's up for me to lead the dwarves of Paintmuscle now.
Thus it's foretold. Thus it will be.

1 Granite
My fellow dwarves sharing this hovel with me didn't argue with destiny and agreed to accept my orders for this year.
They didn't seem to give it much of importance though.
Onwards to inspect fort now!

2 Granite
Well, I can say for sure that the destiny that awaits me is either spectacularly great or unbearably miserable.
Hoping for the former I've marked a new defence tunnels to be dug.
Also our metalworkers are now relieved of all secondary duties being occupied with preparations for my plan.

16 Granite
I've ordered a captive kea woman to be dispatched in order to boost our soldiers attitude towards killng.
The results... well my worries were unwarranted.
A giant kea has stolen (iron short sword)
Meanwhile, wild relatives of the victim are preparing for war. We will be ready when they come.

OOC: Well that was really fun of you whoever has assigned all the dwarves to the rather small inside burrow.

19 Slate
The fate smiles on us.
Reinforcements has come. Our army got a serious boost in power. As well as metalworking and cloth industry.

22 Slate
A dwarven child was destined to have a spark of inspiration today. Whether he'll survive it or not is out of my knowledge.

24 Slate
And a bit of tragedy, an accident has taken Catten Dumatalven, a tanner, today. Somehow, she managed to slip on stairs while cleaning the new deep pit, I see a fist of fate in this. I want to believe her death was quick, her bits being found several steps away from each other, but dwarves say she looked sick the moment before death. She will not be missed much though.

3 Felsite
So happens that it was destiny of Muso Ngoslaxok the cyclops to come to our fort today. Well, I'll make sure his destiny ends here.

That's pretty much it, dear readers.

8 Hematite
Well the creative child wasn't destined to become legendary woodcrafter and is now running around naked and screaming nonsense about us being just pawns in humans' games.

20 Hematite
While we were busy, feathered fiends, damned they be, has stolen a bunch of serrated discs and an artifact figurine. But we've managed to get three of them down in revenge.

25 Malachite
While I was trotting around the fortress today I've noticed Ilral Kedolin, that brave soldier that got injured in a fight with cyclops.
The poor sod looked really hungry and was was quite agitated trying to force new helmet on his head which was already covered with rather
bulky hat. I've inquired what was the problem.
"Must...wear...armor" - Ilral muttered while literally bashing has head with helmet.
"Ilral! Stop that take your cap off first and go eat something. You're barely standing!
"Must...protect...head"
"Ilral don't be silly!"
"Must.."
"Alright! By destined to me authority I forbid you to wear two headwears at once!"
In an instant, the pal dropped helmet but his eyes didn't become clearer or saner.
"Hungry" - Muttered he before walking off.
It's a shame I can't get our doctors (which by the way are three devoted sincere dwarves) to examine him again. The cyclops must have fallen onto the poor guy's head.

12 Galena
The doomed child has died today. Probably should express my condolences to parents.

19 Galena
Humans are here. I'm dismayed to notice that those hucksters disregard the safety signs placed in defensive tunnel, which may lead to unfortunate incidents spoiling our relationships with them. On the other hand, if the trap works, who would care?

26 Galena
The time of trials has come. Goblin ambush was spotted downhill. All archers, they've badly injured the hapless llama pastured on roof. We've managed to lure them inside and butcher them in close combat, but at the cost of two lives only one of which was civilian.
Also a child decided to express it's creativity today.

7 Limestone
Child made basalt amulet. Who cares.
We got a load of wood, various assorted goods and a new alpaca from humans.

14 Limestone

27 Limestone
A Giant Kea has stolen (silver arrows [24])!
A Giant Kea has stolen a (large giant cave spider silk sock)!
A Giant Kea has stolen a (large giant cave spider silk sock)!

Feathered fiends continue their onslaught

19 Sandstone
Migrants. That's all I can say. One of them was destined to replace one of recent causalities in marksdwarf squad, the other reinforced second melee squad, the rest of them will linger in poverty uselessly consuming our food and taking up hauling sometimes.

1 Moonstone
So little of time so much to do. Ny projects are well underway there's much to do yet.

9 Moonstone
We have commenced trading, today, almost forgot to do that.

22 Moonstone
Another spark of creativity.

2 Opal
Another useless work of art: unremarkable goose bone gauntlet.

16 Obsidian
A vile force of darkness has arrived! And my doom weapon is still not ready. The force of one squad is laughable though.

20 Obsidian
Invaders decided to take the shortest path which turned out to be narrow bridge over the volcano. Our shooters were waiting for them. Out of 20 goblins only six are now trying to get away. On our side only unlucky Mafol Adral took not one but a pair arrows to the knee from their leader.
As my final order I guess I'll place a set of fortifications there.

24 Obsidian
Only three goblins made it away.

1 Granite
Well, it turns out that I was destined to fail. The spring is here and my main projects aren't finished. For some karmic reason the other dwarves aren't even aware of they demand me to pass my authority to someone other. Which I'm obliged to do.
So to sum up my year:
1) I've moved wells to upper levels.
2) Got however badly crafted iron armor for our soldiers.
3) Provided quarters for nobles (also jail for six persons)
4) Made various defensive arrangements
5) which include semi-finished semi-automatic magma shotgun. Well if you order dwarves to load it's carts with crap it'll shoot.
I now depart. Well not literally, since my destiny is tightly weaved with destiny of Paintmuscle, but if I'd obtain any kind of office during my rule I'd bust out of it now.

Yay for pictures!

I'd rather say it's war-trained entranceway  :)
Also, I've played a bit more now and can say that all designations to fix shotgun are made. Yet there's another flaw: for some reason I was thinking microline is magma-safe, but apparently it isn't. Next player will need to rebuild rollers with something magma safe. They should be medium speed. Also outer turns need high friction track stops to ensure carts get magma.

Edit: Well, that pretty much sums up: vote for me and in one month you'll get working shotgun that kills a zombie, sends it flying all the way back and drops it's corpse down into the magma formed by the same glob that hit zombie.

I was reluctant to play the year following my last weeks turn anyway but then Di's cool trap/grind/burn/sort and separate entrance appeared and I lost the will to compete having only played a couple of months anyway. So I'm quite happy to move on to next years fort starting with Dis fort which would have beaten anything I presented anyway.

However I would suggest that in future that complete years are not publicized until deadline day, and only on that day.   Seeing a really cool fort submitted made me want to think of the next year and give up on the current one.

As side note, I'm thinking that when this fort dies I'll go adventuring to find that stolen figurine and bring it back - is that even possible ?

So in summary I vote for Di's fort for this week  :)
